Tbilisi (English: /təbɪˈliːsi, təˈbɪlɪsi/ tə-bih-LEE-see, tə-BIL-ih-see; Georgian: თბილისი [tʰbilisi] ( listen)), in some countries also still named by its pre-1936 international designation Tiflis (/ˈtɪflɪs/ TIF-liss), is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River with a population of approximately 1.5 million people. Founded in the 5th century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia, since then Tbilisi served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. Between 1801 and 1917, then part of the Russian Empire, Tbilisi was the seat of the Imperial Viceroy, governing both Southern and Northern Caucasus.

This is probably the most unique luxury spa i ever visited. Not only is the interior decorated in as a royal palace in a mixture of East Asian and modern style. I spent an entire afternoon there and really enjoyed the Nuad Boran massage. From the outside it does not look like a luxury place, and when you enter, you have to get your bag checked, just like at the airports. Only then are you free to go inside. When you're inside its 100% luxury. In the changing rooms, you will find individual lockers with a locking system, and inside each locker there is a shaver, toothbrush, toothpaste, scrub, comb, flip flops, a robe etc. Inside the spa itself you will find a large, heated swimming pool/jacuzzi; various adventure showers, Hamman, hot and cold water ponds, finish sauna, steam room, thermal room and a salt room. Everywhere you will find smiling staff serving fruits and refreshments. This Spa is definitely worth a visit!

I visited Royal a few times during my stay in Tbilisi. It's not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. 150 Lari gets you a suite all your own for 1 hour. The suite has 1 large pool with very warm to hot sulphurous water, a smaller pool with cold mineral water and a sauna. There's also an adjacent changing room with towels and slippers and a separate bathroom. The experience was wonderful. The hot, sulphurous pool is great for your skin and can soothe aching or sore muscles and the cold pool is good for short cool-down sessions in between dips in the hot pool. With all the hiking and walking I did in Georgia, this was very therapeutic! Beer and water are also available and you can take these refreshments into the suite with you. Try soaking in the hot pool with an Argo beer!
