Nestled between the shrub-covered slopes of the Santa Ynez Mountains and the clear blue shores of the Pacific Ocean, Santa Barbara is California at its best. Mission Santa Barbara is an example of 18th-century religious architecture, boasting beautiful grounds and a wonderfully detailed interior. Work up an appetite with a walk through Shoreline Park, then dine above the water on Stearns Wharf. Fig trees, parks, waterfalls, and botanical gardens round out Santa Barbara’s natural beauty.

This is such a wonderful spot in Santa Barbara! A great place to relax, play with the kids, see the ducks/turtles(definitely do not feed them – not good for them), or just relax on a couple different areas of beautiful lawn. You can find sections that are quiet or active. One of my favorite picnic spots super close to downtown to go food.???? Right across the street is a kids park with wood structures and toys for the more active children!.

With sweeping views to the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Santa Barbara Channel Islands and stunning landscapes, the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is a great place to explore California's native plant diversity. The Garden's 78 acres encompass a variety of cultivated displays as well as stands of natural coast live oak and riparian woodlands. The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden fosters the conservation of California's native plants through our gardens, research and education, and serves as a role model of sustainable practices. Explore 5.5 miles of trails and see the Redwood grove, iconic Meadow display, authentic Japanese tea house, Mission Creek, and so much more. Our capacity is currently limited on-site to allow for social distancing and we reserve the right to temporarily halt admissions during peak visitation times. Visit on weekdays and after 2 p.m. for the smallest crowds. Last admission is at 4:30 p.m.
Details: parking is free, admission is $16 per adult, duration 2-3 hours, bathrooms at entrance, full of native California vegetation, can bring picnic, masks required but no actual enforcement. We spent two hours here very leisurely walking around and taking multiple breaks, including a 20 minute picnic break. We did the one-mile loop and the other side over the road with the overlook. I feel like we could have definitely spent another hour here if we were more in the mood and wore the right shoes. Unfortunately it wasn’t as peaceful as I would have liked as there was construction going on nearby, but a lovely place to spend a few hours in nature. Relatively Easy to explore for most ages/activity levels, not sure how much someone in a wheelchair could do though. Dogs allowed. Recommended.
