The other "half" of the two frescos by Ben Long. The other being in Glendale Springs not too far away. Very peaceful and open 24 hours a day. Please take the time to understand the difference between frescos and paintings. These are NOT paintings which makes them more difficult to produce.

While in West Jefferson, make time for Carolina Country Wines. It is an intimate bottle shop where one can unwind and relax. In the heart of downtown West Jefferson is this very friendly bottle shop with a good selection of craft beers and fine wines. When my wife and I went their for the first time on a Saturday afternoon, the place was almost full. We sat the bar counter, where two employees were rending to the customers. Both of them provided excellent service which includes having conversations with us about almost anything. Of course, the main topic was the great North Carolina craft beers they had on tap and in the store. Carolina Country Wines has scheduled tastings, pairings, and tap takeovers. The bottle shop has craft beers and international beers that you will not find in most stores. As former owners of a bottle shop, we are impressed with the selection of beers. This includes the town's great brewery, Boondocks Brewing. And! The county's great Molley Chomper Hard Cider is available here. You will definitely want to have some of this wonderful hard cider that we consider some of the best around. We have written a review about that cidery so you can get a better idea of how great it is. We were also impressed with the number of people who visited it while we drank our great NC craft beers. Word has gotten out that one needs to stop by Carolina Country Wines before hitting the road (As long as you are sober). Many of us have our dogs with us, and Carolina Country Wines welcomes them with open arms. Dogs are allowed in this bottle shop thus the next time we are in West Jefferson, the three of us (Yes; our Minnie Aussie, too) will be spending a couple of hours here.

Catchlight Gallery is dedicated solely to the art of photography. We have 23 unique photographers displaying their works. As a coop you will usually find one of them behind the counter ready to discuss their photographs and to answer your questions.
Have been many times and will return. Gallery crawls are so much fun and it's great to get to know the back story on some of the photographs right from the photographers. Have purchased an eclectic variety of photographs from many of the artists on display. Definitely worth stopping by when in town or making the trip for a crawl. They have a great Instagram page too.

North Carolina's oldest and largest cheese manufacturer. Watch cheese being made in our factory viewing room. Our retail store has all our cheeses available plus our fresh country butter, fresh fudge and hand-dipped ice cream. Something new for the kids (and kids at heart) is our Kandy Korner with over 150 varieties of new and traditional candies. We also have a great selection of NC Wines, and imported cheeses as well as Amish Foods.
The cheese factory is a fun experience, but since cheese-making isn't constant, you should call ahead and ask about the schedule if you want to see that. Kids seem to really enjoy a visit to the factory. The cheese store is the best. In addition to the cheeses made locally, they have other cheeses, as well as fresh-made fudge, all sorts of honey, preserves, etc. Cookies, crackers, butter, cold sodas, lots of candies. Hershey's ice cream dipped to order. Frozen Moravian chicken pies and local beef! The folks who work in the store are some of the nicest people around. I was in there recently when it was wall-to-wall people, and the staff were working as fast as they could, but still treating each customer as a valued guest. This little store is a reminder of the way things once were, before the acceleration of absolutely everything.

Martha Mae's is a country store with an array of interesting items. There are homemade gifts and hand crafted items throughout the store. I like that each vendor is unique with items from hand crafted wood work to hand cut soaps and harvested honeys. The store is well maintained in a clean, organized manner. A fun shopping experience with quality products.
