Swadlincote is a town in Derbyshire, England, near the borders with Leicestershire and Staffordshire. It lies about 5 miles (8 km) south-east of Burton-upon-Trent, 5 miles (8 km) north-west of Ashby-de-la-Zouch and 12.5 miles (20 km) due south of Derby. It is an unparished area in the South Derbyshire district, of which it is the largest town and administrative centre. Swadlincote covers also the districts of Newhall and Midway, and the contiguous villages of Church Gresley and Woodville. Their combined population is about 36,000. Castle Gresley lies less than 2 miles (3 km) to the south-west and Albert Village 1.5 miles (2 km) to the south, within Leicestershire.

Sharpe's Pottery Museum is home to the local heritage of Swadlincote and surrounding areas, the iconic building is home to the Museum Collections & Exhibitions, Swadlincote Tourist Information Centre, Cafe Espresso & The Magic Attic Archives. We have a function room for hire that is suitable for meetings or family celebrations; there is also a cafe that opens out on to a children's playzone on the ground floor along with the Tourist Information and Gift Shop. The upper floor is home to a large exhibition area, a walk way that showcases the 'old kiln' and the extensive historic archives compiled by The Magic Attic. There is Disabled Access to all areas with a lift to enable access to the upper floor, toilet facilities for diabled visitors can be found on both levels. We have adjacent Free Parking and Brown Signed Car Parking within a few hundred yards, ALL parking in Swadlincote is Free of Charge. We are open Monday to Saturday 10am - 4.30pm with last entry to view the Museum at 4pm, Spring & Summer Bank Holiday Monday Opening Times are 10am - 3pm.

Stayed one night at the end of October. Lovely country pub with history and character in the village of Hartshorne. Had a lovely warm welcome and shown to our lovely room. The room was comfortable, well furnished , bed was comfortable and good quality bedding. We slept well. The en-suite bathroom was a delight. With a great shower. There was tea and coffee making facilities a nice flat screen TV . We had a lovely dinner here. Good choice menu . Large portions. We had pate to start. Followed by a fillet steak and beef Stroganoff. Food was good quality cooked well and nice quality ingredients used. Reasonably priced. There were good covid regulations in place tables spread out and Masks worn. Felt very safe. The breakfast we had full English which was cooked fresh to order and really nice. Made to fell really welcome during our stay and owners couldn’t do enough for us. Loved everything. Thank you. We were in the area to collect our new puppy. But would love to return to the pub and the area.

Not enough trees to make it a National Forest. Some great walks though or trails to go mountain biking on or walk the dogs or ride the horses. Most of the trails are on ex-train lines but you wouldn't know. I know because I remember trains running. Conkers Discovery Centre - part of the National Forest at Moira appears to take the money, which is wrong. Shame on you National Forest people

Set in open parkland, alongside a stretch of the Ashby Canal and wrapped up in the heart of the National Forest, Moira Furnace is the most well preserved blast furnace in the country, dating back to 1806. Now rescued from demolition and restored, it serves as an outstanding landmark with a surprisingly interesting museum nestled inside. The canal barge, the Joseph Wilkes, glides visitors up and down the restored stretch of the Ashby Canal whilst the park and woodland provide ample space for legs of all lengths to stretch themselves out and enjoy the feeling of being close to nature.

Great little place to visit if you have a couple of hours to spare. The history of the furnace is interesting and it’s lovely to take a stroll by the canal followed by tea and cake in the cafe. Keep an eye out for the various festivals etc held here during the spring and summer months

Today I visited this store (again) to buy some fish, filter replacements and to have a general look around. The staff in the Fish House were extremely knowledgeable and helpful (I now have three new fish). The staff on the shop floor were helpful and supportive too helping me find the correct filter replacement as well as answering my questions & queries. I ventured around the store filling up my basket and every member of staff I came across was smiling and very friendly from the moment I walked in to the moment I left! I would highly recommend visiting this place, not just for your pet needs but also for day to day living!!
