Puerto Baquerizo Moreno (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈpweɾto βakeˈɾiso moˈɾeno]) is the capital of Galápagos Province, Ecuador. It is located on the southwestern coast of San Cristóbal, the easternmost island in the archipelago, and is the capital of San Cristóbal Canton. It was founded by General Villamil Playas in the mid-19th century, and takes its name from President Alfredo Baquerizo Moreno (1859–1951). Today, fishing is the main activity of the locals, but tourism is on the increase along the waterfront with numerous hotels and shops.

A nice hike that's easily accessible from town. We only had one full day on San Cristobal to explore (wish we had more, there's plenty to do here!) and spent part of the afternoon walking up to Cerro Tijeretas. There's a path that connects this to the interpretation center, Playa Carola, and a few other viewpoints. The pathway is paved and easy to navigate. We wished we had more time to snorkel at one of the bays, but didn't have the gear/time to do so.

Nice hike along a boardwalk to the Interpretation Center - interesting displays that explain the history, development, and Charles Darwin’s role in the Galápagos Islands. Continue on to scenic viewing areas, a great spot to snorkel, a monument to Darwin, and a path to a beach covered with sea lions. Wear your walking shoes and swim suit. Great way to spend a few hours.

Neat placement of the statue. The stone pathways that traverse this corner of the island are astonishing. They must have been some hard work to lay down. Lovely View
