Great walk at Burrington Ham off the beaten track in the Mendips. Very small car park. Dogs love it here all those interesting smells not found in the city. Access muddy in wet weather but once on the grass it's fine. Violets, scabious, thyme etc scattered across the grass in spring and summer, blackberries in late summer. Often see buzzards overhead and there are great views from the top of the rocky outcrop. Mostly level walking but no seating areas. No toilets. There is an ice cream van in the summer. Generally pretty deserted but be aware of horse riders and cattle who have been brought in for conservation grazing.

If you are looking for a place to cycle with friends or family this place is perfect! 10 miles of traffic-free path. We hired bikes from Brean Bike Hire which is part of Bicycle Shack that have a shop in Burnham - they were great! We ended the day at Cheddar reservoir and rested our legs. Can't recommend this cycle path enough. The only downside can be parking!

I go to the Res most days to walk the dog, there is panoramic views of the Mendips and seasonal changes, it is the most beautiful place to unwind and take in the views

Very picturesque drive thru the gorge. Lots of cafes and stop offs to enjoy. Ample parking and an interesting place to walk around.

This is a general listing capturing general feedback on the public areas of Cheddar village and gorge from our visitors, managed by the Parish Council.
Cheddar is a typical West Country village set in dramatic scenery in the heart of the Mendips. Its claim to fame is of course the caves although there is a lot more to see than just this - the hills above Jacobs Ladder, the little stream that meanders through the town and of course the restaurants, pubs and shops - and yes, some of them do sell cheese! Whatever the time of year it makes for an excellent day out.

This is a lovely little cheese shop selling many different varities of cheddar all of which are made in the village, including the wondeful cave matured variety. As one would expect, it costs somewhat more than the supermarket but it is worth it for the quality and the taste.
