The shrines and temples of Kyoto offer a rare link between modern life in the city and its very ancient past. The Shimogamo Shrine dates to the 6th century and seems suspended in time, its serenity and spiritual power still palpable. Visit Fushimi Inari Shrine, then see the life-sized Thousand Armed Kannon statues of Sanjūsangen-dō. Enjoy traditional geisha performances, then savor a tranquil meal at a restaurant overlooking the Kamo River.

The tour was just like a live stream. You will get on a rickshaw and your friendly driver will show you around in Kyoto. After the ride, your guide will walk with you and take you to the beautiful bamboo forest and Tenruji Temple. You will also meet monkeys at the park in Iwatayama! The only thing I was disappointed about was I couldn't taste the Shojin Ryori or Buddhist vegetarian meal that our guide Mickey-san showed and explained. I should be on the real tour!

Definitely worth the money as there is so much more to learn first hand than what can be read. The walking tour after the tea ceremony was special and fun " maiko spotting ". They are very shy, quick and hide from general public view. We were privileged to spot 5 young maikos during our tour, apparently a rarity. sunset seems to be the best time to be in the area for you to have a Chance spot a Maiko. This is an integral, traditional part of Japanese culture and my highest respect to the ladies who choose to live their lives this way to ensure this Tradition lives on.
