Applewood Distillery

Welcome to Ochre Nation Bar - Home of Applewood Distillery & Unico Zelo Wines. We can host small groups for tastings by appointment only. Contact us via email. Who are we? Applewood Distillery is South Australia’s hub and encouragement of Craft Gin. Not many know we make much more than our signature Applewood Gin. We also have a range of clients including: Prohibition Liquor, Barossa Distilling, Ounce Gin, Glen Ewin Estate Fig Gin, Brocken Spectre. Outside of Gin we also make Cello’s, Amaro’s and starting to get dabble in whisky. We love Australia, so much so that we want to embrace the Land we come from and use Australian botanicals and ingredients wherever possible. Whether that be in our Gin, amaros or within our Limited Editions. We want you and the world to experience these gifts from our great country. Unico Zelo is Inspired by an intense passion for the land, our wines are crafted to showcase unique sites and soils that Australia has to offer - in styles that are typified by the life and culture of this sunburnt country - from varieties that require minimal intervention. Following their passions for italian-inspired, textural and site-expressive wines, they seek to create Australian examples of Mediterranean varieties in an approachable and jovial fashion. We believe that these are the appropriate varieties for our country and what we should be known for. We support our local community with the Harvest Wine Co-op - Australia’s only operating growers co-op. What is this? It is a profit sharing initiative and effort to support farmers in financial hardship after unsustainable farming and wine industry practice.

I went to the Applewood Distillery with some friends and as a local I cannot believe I have not visited before! Thank you Sophia and Tom for the kind and friendly service with excellent knowledge of the different types of gin. I would recommend the gin collection with a food platter. There is also a Tesla recharging station for electric cars. I will definitely be returning sometime soon.

Prohibition Liquor Co

The Prohibition Distillery and Tasting Room is Adelaide's only craft spirit tasting room with production and cellar door facilities on site. Grab one of our Gin flights and a tasting platter of local produce: antipasto, cheeses, dips or some gourmet toasties. The home of Adelaide's own, International award winning Prohibition Gin, the Prohibition Tasting Room is not to be missed in Adelaide's CBD.

Recommended to us by friends who know the owners and did not disappoint. Stylish venue with great staff who were very welcoming and knowledgeable. We tried a couple of the gin flights and have to say all the gins were exceptional. We also enjoyed the food which was high quality, well presented and really complimented the drinks. Always great to support small independent businesses like Prohibition. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a good night out in Adelaide and something unique.

Located on the main road as you enter Hahndorf, your experience begins with a walk through our Distillery Garden planted with some of the botanicals used in the production of Gin. Our Distillery and Tasting Bar has indoor and outdoor space for you to try our beautiful Award winning Gins. The building is surrounded by rural landscape and inside is fitted out with polished concrete floors, natural timber and reclaimed red brick walls with windows that open up to the surrounding rural views. Thought we would check the distillery out while we were visiting Hahndorf. Great little spot and location with a wide selection of different gin concoctions to choose from (I just got the flight of three because I wanted to try them all and my partner tried the new-old-fashioned) ! We can definitely recommend to come visit and perhaps next time we will have to either stay up in Hahndorf or find a non-drinker to drive us!

We did a gin making class, It was fantastic to put together your own concoctions. Was very instructive and the guy who runs it was excellent and very helpful. Their own gin is fantastic as is the tonic they have started to produce. Look forward to returning there on our next visit.
