Bigar Cascade Falls

Hidden in the Anina Mountains, Bigar Waterfall is truly spectacular. Its shape and plant carpet conquers anyone. The beautiful pouring of water over the moss carpet is a unique natural phenomenon in the world. Having the shape of a cone, the waterfall is about 8 meters high and has as its source an underground water source that drains on a limestone wall. There you have the opportunity to descend on a wooden ladder at the base of the waterfall or to admire it from a height on a bridge over the river Nera. You can take photos from many angles and discover indescribable landscapes. This is my second visit and I can honestly say that it is worth seeing.

It is amazing to see the old wooden mills still functioning, exactly the same way as they did hundreds of years ago.

Oravita – Anina Railway

Reviewed By sergiuROguide - Timisoara, Romania

This is a really cool ride you need to do if you ever come to Banat. What people do not understand that this is not your typical western TGV that you take from Paris to Nice or your standard train you travel from one country to another. It's a mountain railroad that dates back to 1863!! Back them there was only 1 other mountain railroad in Europe - the Semmeringbahn in Austria. This railroad initially transported coal and only after a few years public transport started. The wooden benches you sit on are perfect for a 2h trip that is meant to take you back in time. Would it be the same if you have a brand new, comfy chair there? No, it wouldn't. Trust me. The scenery is amazing and you will be able to enjoy this trip whatever the season. Sure, it's hot during summer, but it's worth it if you take 2-3 cold local beers with you and enjoy then during the ride. If this sounds interesting to you then you should take the trip as it is fully of history, a truly cool experience that is amazingly cheap and would help keep it working and not get shut down!

6. Muzeul de Locomotive (Steam Locomotive Museum)

Historical Center

Aside spending some time strolling around the resort town Baile Herculane, (the first documented resort in Romania, that was at the peak of its development during the 19th century), you can also enjoy some interesting locations such as the derelict Neptune Imperial Baths, a monument of the 19th century architecture, the Hercules statue, the Old Train Station built in 1886, the Old Casino Building, and a museum displaying ancient Roman artifacts inside the Roman Hotel. Don't miss the beautiful sight of a sequoia tree by the Old Train Station. The city itself is quaint and utterly romantic, with lots of beer gardens, gazebos, and bistros, great for honeymooners. Its sulfur spas are great for people who suffer of dermatitis and other immune skin conditions. For the fit traveler in search of adventures, a great gateway to Domogled National Park (park entrance is located 10 minutes drive from downtown) or Nera Valley National Park .
