Tuatara began as a backyard operation in the hills above Waikanae. Founded by Carl Vasta, an engineer with the taste buds of a wine critic. Carl is the living, breathing epitome of "Kiwi ingenuity". If he needed a shed or a bottler or a tank, he’d just go ahead and build one. Before too long, he’d managed to brew a superb range of ales, porters and pilsners for his friends under the name Tuatara. To say that Tuatara Brewery has taken off in the last few years is an understatement. Heck, we’ve been propelled into orbit. We’ve become one of the leading lights in the craft industry. Tuatara Brewing Co's on site Tap Room is a non-pretentious, casual, and relaxed environment. Visit us and taste our superbly fresh range of beer on site in our unique dining and garden bar setting, maybe even a bite to eat or fill a rigger to take home. Now with a plethora of regular gigs and events.
Having tried Tuatara beers a few times, I came to their brewery in Paraparaumu to check them out - and found they have a relaxing, comfortable place to enjoy a wide variety of excellent brews as well as superb pizzas and snacks. IMHO it’s the best of New Zealand’s craft breweries - with a friendly and knowledgeable staff - and a great place to meet others who appreciate a good pint! I’ve been here 5 or 6 times now ... and plan to return often.

Come visit us at our cellar door! We have plenty of parking & we are an easy 5-minute walk from the Upper Hutt train station.
Friendly staff, informative and entertaining brewery tour with fabulous tastings. We spent a lovely afternoon here...we were in a group of 7...we loved the tastings so much we bought all the beers we didn't sample and continued the beer tasting back at our accommodation. Loved the various flavours and art work.

A boutique brewery located in the heart of Martinborough. Our beer is hand crafted with care and attention to detail by people with a passion for their product and region. Visit our well appointed tasting room and sample beer direct from the on-site brewery.
Great brews making for a very tasty flight of beers and you can’t go wrong with the Cheerios and cheese toast for old time favourites. The darker beers were surprising delicious as we’re both not usually that way inclined.

fantastic beer and atmosphere, Garage Project continue to dominate the realm of realness. there are things wellington do well, this place is a fine example. The GP in Auckland is a total waste of time. the GP is wellington has actual seating, the one on Auckland, has none, well it has four chairs. the GP in wellington has a buzzing bar, full of everyday people who enjoy quality, the GP in Auckland is an empty wide open space. well, to be fair the one in Auckland has the incorrect licence for sitting around enjoying oneself. it`s set up as a tasting shop, taking the tasting idea to new lows. meh, not a fan of tasting, drinking yes, tasting, well, what is the blimmin point. Auckland has a pretty rubbish pub culture. you can count the good pubs on one hand, why oh why didn't GP do what they did in wellington here in AUCKLAND. oh well. anyway, GP in wellington would be my fav pub in new Zealand.
