We love walking along the Arno River... Why? First, because you can get away from insane crowds... Second, because you can enjoy the best views of Ponte Vecchio, facades of gorgeous palaces on both sides of the river, and cross the bridges to the neighborhoods unknown to tourists. This is how you experience real Firenze... The river is known for bringing disastrous floods to the city, so it is not as tranquil as you might think. The last devastating flood happened in 1966 with 37 human lives lost and many art treasures damaged. And the Arno is really atmospheric in the rain... we enjoyed our walk on a rainy day in May and the photos came out beautifully.
