7 Bars & Clubs in Greenwich That You Shouldn't Miss

June 7, 2021 Venice Greaves

The crown jewels, Buckingham Palace, Camden Market…in London, history collides with art, fashion, food, and good British ale. A perfect day is different for everyone: culture aficionados shouldn't miss the Tate Modern and the Royal Opera House. If you love fashion, Oxford Street has shopping galore. For foodies, cream tea at Harrod’s or crispy fish from a proper chippy offers classic London flavor. Music and book buffs will love seeing Abbey Road and the Sherlock Holmes Museum (at 221B Baker Street, of course).

The River Ale House

The River Ale House is a micropub based at 131 Woolwich Rd in Greenwich and opened in September 2017. Currently it is the only micropub in Greenwich and one of only three in the Borough. It is open 7 days a week serving real ales, ciders, wines, gins, bottled and canned beers, soft drinks and tea & coffee. Typically there will be 6-8 ales and a dozen or so ciders to choose from. All the ales are poured straight from the casks that are kept in our chilled room. Scotch eggs, hot or cold sausage rolls and cheese and ham bread rolls are also normally available. It has a rustic interior with a gentle sound environment and is a 'local' in the old sense of the word with its own community now in place. A good place to relax and smile. Bus routes 177, 180, 129, 442 & 286 stop right outside our door. Both 129 and 442 buses link to North Greenwich on the Jubilee Line. We are also just a 5 minute walk away from Westcombe Park overground train station and about 25 minutes walk from Cutty Sark.

The River Ale House was reccommended to us by Charlton fans at the Hawthorns last year. We met up with them again on Saturday in there own pub - and what a pub! A fantastic selection of craft beers and real ales. Really friendly locals and great atmosphere. Perfect for a few beers pre-match and only 20 minutes walk from the Valley. It's around 20 minutes walk from the Cutty Sark. Whenever West Brom play at Charlton we will definitely be haeding to this pub.
