Adea Wine Company

Our driver told us that we would meet the winemaker, Dean, and we sure did, he was our host for the visit. Dean was in overalls and is the one who can and does it all! This stop will be about a personal experience if you choose to visit. Dean spent time telling us about his start and time in winemaking, his family, his future direction... he was so very kind and approachable, like a good ole farmer according to my husband. He provided generous pours and we were able to drink three additional wines straight from the barrel. He answered lots and lots of questions and you can tell is in this business for the love and passion of it. He's not concerned about the competition and will near retirement soon maybe. He takes in younger winemakers and provides them with his venue to help them get started. He was a great guy and we did like a lot of his wines. It was a really fun and laid back experience with lots to taste!

We arrived a little behind our schedule with our RV, via Harvest Host, so they quickly gave my husband a friendly half flight, since we had to pick something up in Portland. Made it back after most had gone home and realized that while we had purchased some wine, we still didn’t have wine glasses. Quinn was very gracious in allowing us to borrow glasses overnight, which we will return in the morning. Our kitty stayed inside, because there are barn owls and other cats on the property, but she enjoyed watching all the activity from our RV. Please note that the entrance is a little steep. We had no trouble, but a less robust engine might. Look forward to a walk around the vineyard tomorrow!

Elk Cove Vineyards

Named for the herd of Roosevelt Elk that roam the nearby Coast Range Mountains, Elk Cove is one of Oregon's historic vineyards and was first planted in 1974 by Pat and Joe Campbell. Elk Cove remains family owned and second generation winemaker Adam Campbell is known for Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs, aromatic white wines like Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc, and winery exclusives like their Chardonnay, Brut Rosé, Rieslings and a sweet dessert wine they call "Ultima" Interesting for travelers, Elk Cove is one of the few Oregon wineries that farm multiple vineyard sites in the Willamette Valley. Their six sites span two sub-AVAs (American Viticultural Areas) of the Willamette Valley and their fruit is grown on all three of the major soil types favored for growing grapes in this area: Jory, Laurelwood and Willakenzie. Elk Cove is also known for the spectacular view of the Coast Range Mountains and vineyards of the bowl-like property that surround their tasting room. It's a three mile drive up from Gaston, Oregon, that's totally worth the view.

We visited Elk Cove Vineyards on our trip to the Oregon wine country in late February 2020. It is located in Gaston, Oregon, part of the Yamhill-Carlton AVA (American Viticultural Area) of the Willamette Valley. We were greeted by Elissa Fenske (tasting room manager) in their beautiful tasting room with a fabulous view of the vineyards. Wine tasting is $15 per flight (one tasting waived if you purchase 2 bottles of wine). Their wines did not disappoint. Elissa was very knowledgeable and educated us on the vineyards, their processes, etc. We brought two bottles of wine: Elk Cove 2017 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir at $32.00; and Elk Cove Willamette Valley Chardonnay at $50.00. Note: The end of February is considered off season and you will probably find that you are the only ones in many of the winery tasting rooms.

We really enjoy our time at the Winery and the Winery's events! The wines are very enjoyable and the people make you feel at home. Once we joined the wine club, they really do make you feel like family! I would highly recommend this winery to visit and become a member! The club membership options are very reasonable! They have also offer case deals at different times of the year!

My Kids took me to the winery the first time for Fathers day 2020! The winery set-up socially distancing Canopies for parties up to 6, which was permissible by the state guidelines. The event was so much fun, we became members! The wines were excellent and I would personally recommend this to everyone! Our host was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the wines and other local wineries! Just know when going up their hill, you'll need to make sure your vehicle can handle the country style of road. Well maintained and easy to navigate, but clearance could be a concern for lower riding automobile.

Beacon Hill Winery & Vineyard

Reviewed By Otazman-Ron - Tigard, United States

I like big bold red wine and Portland Oregon Pinot's can be good but they are normally expensive. Beacon Hill has great Pinot's for a reasonable price starting at $30ish. Building is amazing and the view is great. Hint, their Rose Pinot is AMAZING and under $25ish on a hot day sitting on their lawn and drinking a bottle should be on your to do list.
