From its snow-capped mountains to its mighty fjords, from grand valleys to tranquil lakes and lovely archipelagos, the county of Troms is bursting with natural wonders. To cap it off, it also plays host to the northern lights. Tromso, the capital, is the gateway to the region's rugged beauty, but with 65,000 people it's also a surprisingly rich city culturally, with many interesting museums and sites (including the world's northernmost botanical garden) and even a pulsing nightlife.

Harstad is situated at the heart of Northern Norway, at the gate to the Vesteralen and Lofoten islands. This is a region with unforgettable adventures in nature, accessible and mighty mountain landscapes, fantastic views and a plentiful archipelago. This is the place to find a quiet spot for yourself, drink clean water from trickling rivers or fish in mountain lakes or at sea. Harstad lies at the centre of an exciting region: Kvaefjord is known for its strawberries and Nupen, elected to the most romantic place in Norway to see the midnight sun. Bjarkoy, the Viking seat of Tore Hund, can boast a formidable archipelago, a bird rock and many white-tailed eagles. The boroughs adjacent to the airport, Tjeldsund and Skanland, are known for their fantastic mountain walks, white sandy beaches and beautiful fjords. Skanland even has its own ‘ice swimming beach’. You will also find old sami settlements here and a cultural landscape bearing witness of settlements throughout thousands of years. Visit us at the tourist office for further information. We have lots of suggestions for hiking, activities, attractions and sights.
