The Petrification Savannah, in French called "Savane des Pétrifications" is at the southernmost end of the peninsula of St. Anne. Your professional guide will enable you to discover this exceptional desert-like site! The place owes its strange name to the fact that fossilised pieces of wood and even trees could once be admired there. In fact it is the oldest part of Martinique. Not far from the Petrification Savannah, you can take a break to appreciate the charms of the beach at the Big Cove of Les Salines (Grande Anse des Salines - the most famous beach of Martinique), whose fine sand, coconut trees and turquoise sea delight sunbathers. The level of english of the guide is limited but ok for the tour.

Arrived by cruise ship in February. Driver/tour guide was over half an hour late. Kept us waiting in the rain at the pier. Did not get off to a good start. Kept being told that he's coming by other staff of the same tour company. Tour was okay, only 5 of us in a mini van. Difficult to hear if you're seated at the back. With such a small group, no flexibility in the itinerary. It was on a Saturday and the whole town was closed. These small islands complained cruise ships not bring them any benefit but yet all shops were closed. It's difficult to spend money to help boost the economy if you do not open for business! The weather was terrible and was raining on and off all day, heavy at times. Both the tour company and the tour is not recommended and in fact, you may skip this island.
3. Salines Beach with a Rum-Distillery Stop
Your private guide with a modern, air-conditioned van will pick you up and take you to enjoy the most iconic beach in Martinique, les Salines. On your way enjoy a stop at the Trois-Rivieres distillery to sample some excellent rums and to learn about rum-making. Included in the tour is a stop at a viewpoint to admire the hills and beaches from high up a hill. About three hours of beach time at les Salines. Tour can also be customized to your needs.

With so much time on my hands now , I thought is would be a good time to post a review on our Foodie Tour in Fort-de-France. We met up with our most wonderful and pleasant guide Meri. We experienced both the beauty and the taste of the town. Sights like the Schoelcher Library, the beautiful court yard whith the old Cathedral. But lets not forget the food! We tasted all kinds of cheese and candies, sauces and of course RUM at a quaint local store. Such nice people there, they kept offering more and more to taste. We visited a pasty shop and had several traditional pastries, sitting in a lovely little outside patio. From there we visited the Market, which we were able to taste a few items. We were so full. Meri took great care of us and she was very easy to talk to. She shared stories of her family and and it made us feel as though we were walking with a good friend. Our last stop of the day was a great RUM shop. We were able to taste three or four rums. So good! We even bought a bottle of our favorite to take with us. This was a laid back and very informative tour. If you ever are looking for a guide in Fort-de-France, don't hesitate to contact Meri. We are a family with 2 kids and had only 4,5 days to visit Martinique. We had the chance to meet Koranji as our taxi driver when arriving to the island and found out that he was also an excellent guide. He helped us first with finding a car for rent, then he gave us a lot of tips to make trips on our own, one in the south and another one in the north of the island. Finally he took us for a full day trip to discover the heart of the island. He is very passionate and knowledgeable about Martinique, its history, its fauna and flora. He paid a lot of attention at our comfort and even gave us a little surprise at the airport when leaving. A real advantage to know him while staying in Martinique.

6. Rum and Salines paradise beach
This excursion takes you to the south of our beautiful island. Our first stop will be at the Trois Rivières rum distillery where the guests will hear about our typical rum making process and get to taste. After the half hour rum tasting, we will make a short photo stop in the community of Le Marin. There the guests have a beautiful view on the south of the island and on the neighboring island of St. Lucia. We will then head to the Saline’s beach which is the most beautiful beach on the island with its postcard perfect more than one kilometer long white sand beach boarded by coconut trees.
