Fairbairn was lovely! The rooms are huge, the showers hot and modern, the beds firm and comfortable and there were battery charged lights all over the house to accommodate load shedding. We arrived in the evening cold and exhausted from cycling all day. Linky arrived with an amazing supper, and was so friendly and caring. Thanks very much - i hope to visit again.

Maclear Manor offers the ideal retreat destination for anyone seeking a break away to the country side. Situated in the beautiful town of Maclear in the North Eastern Cape, the stunning scenery and mountains offer the ideal backdrop for any moment. We offer the perfect stop for anyone visiting or travelling through the area. Located in a quiet cul-de sac, Maclear Manor offers its guests tranquillity away from the bustle of town. All our rooms have private bathrooms and are equipped with DSTV, fridge, microwave and electric blankets. Indoor braai facilities, undercover parking and wi-fi available.
We were extremely disappointed in this place. As we were approaching Maclear, we did ask the Manager if our breakfast could be packed, as we wanted to leave earlier the next morning. We were then informed that they are not making Breakfast. The photos on the reservation site did not at all give the same representation of the place we stayed at. Not sure why they state on the reservation site that they are making Breakfast, price was not justifiable. Inside the bathroom the bath was filled with gravel and a garden made to prevent people from bathing, I think a sign would have been sufficient.

Woodcliffe is the last inhabited farm before the high Drakensberg in the Eastern Cape. Woodcliffe is 22km from Maclear on a gravel road, just 7km off the R396. Stay at the farmhouse or cottages. Spend a few days to take in the beautiful mountain scenery. We offer 1-5 day hikes, trout fishing, guided rock art tours and wild flower tours in the summer months. Relax in this exquisite location.
After a long and telling drive - the most wonderful place to arrive. Friendly reception and general assistance by the owner Ryan. Very nice and comfortable cottage - fully equipped. We just sat at the braai area and stare at the beauty of creation - the huge mountain and a flowing river 100m away. Three comfortable rooms, clean and fully equipped. No TV - but in this environment a great not to have!! Road not in a great condition after some rain - fortunately speed was not of the essence :)

We didn't get off to a very good start when on arrival we were told they didn't know about our booking which was made last April and paid in full luckily I always travel with the paperwork for everything I book as we were asked are you paying the rest now and this doesn't include breakfast I know that I booked for the main house in a twin room but we were put in a tiny room with a tin roof we had a huge thunderstorm that night so no sleep for us the bathroom was clean but that's the only good thing to say about it The only positive was the breakfast was very good I have done a lot of reviews and I always try to be fair and honest

Maclear is in a scenic part of South Africa, which makes up - to some extent - for the telltale signs of municipal neglect. My friend and I chose this spot as it was about halfway on our homeward journey from KwaZulu-Natal to Grahamstown/Makhanda. We needed to stop over somewhere inexpensive, quiet and safe. Villa Micasa required a bit of sleuthing to find, as it was on a rutted dirt track - somehow an extension of Wade Avenue - and not signposted. As per instructions on the phone, we had hooted at the gate, and it opened straight away. We drove in and found ourselves on a large, bare lawn with a row of accommodation units down one side. Uncertain, we stopped and waited for someone to welcome us and show us to our unit. A skinny little lady with a broomstick appeared in one of the doorways; I looked at her enquiringly, and she flapped a hand vaguely before nipping out and disappearing. We could only guess that this was the room assigned to us, so drove closer, parked and walked in. It was perfectly adequate: clean, neat, and comfortable, with all the self-catering essentials (the fridge wasn't on, but that wasn't a major issue). We had a bit of a giggle at the skew mirror, and 'Tretchikoff' style art ... but again, it didn't matter. We made our supper, slept well, and left refreshed the next morning. If there was a host on the property, we never met him/her.
