Once again, en route from Presov, Slovakia to Rotterdam we were looking for somewhere to stay near to the autobahn A38. We came off at junction 13 and drove the short distance to the village of Kelbra. The first accommodation we saw was the Pension Weidemuhle. It is attractively sited with a river close by and an outdoor beer garden. Meals can be taken outside or in the restaurant. The price for a double room with breakfast was very reasonable ie 60 Euro. Our room was large and airy with en suite, WiFi and TV - very comfortable. One minor moan! The curtains didn`t keep the light out in the morning so we woke up early! The dinner we had was very well prepared and the beer, excellent! Breakfast, too, was plentiful. Needless to say, we very much enjoyed our stay. The staff were helpful and friendly and made allowances for our poor German. Without a doubt, on our next trip out East we will stay there again! For a longer stay there are walks and cycle paths in the area. Kelba is a really pleasant village.

The hotel is in the centre of Kelbra and perfectly situated for the trips we were planning. The reception and service were friendly and helpful. There was plenty of room for parking. The room we had booked was not yet prepared, and so we took another. The room had a balcony but the view was dreary (not helped by the weather). On our first night, the hotel restaurant was closed at 8pm, and so we chose to go elsewhere (although there is very little choice in Kelbra). The second night we ate at the hotel and the food was OK, but overpriced. The breakfast was very limited and overpriced for limited offer. The first night we tried to sleep with the window open, but there was a strong smell of coal burning, which I don't think came from the hotel but was in the air all around. Although the hotel was otherwise very adequate, the price was a little high for the quality and facilities offered.

We stopped for two separate nights enroute to/from the Czech Republic. 10 minutes from the Autobahn and easily found. Plenty of parking on site. Staff were welcoming with limited but sufficient English. Our single rooms were compact, but perfectly adequate for a quick night stop. Perhaps not so for an extended stay. Clean with a comfortable bed. The ensuite facilities were again compact, but clean and with good water pressure in the shower. It may be that on a hot summer night that the lack of air conditioning may trouble some. The attraction for us, apart from proximity to the Autobahn, was the on site restaurant. After a long day on the road outbound all we needed was a cold beer and a meal - we were not disappointed - as per normal, excellent German beer and a very acceptable Italian meal. On our return trip we we not going to be in the area until about 1900 on a Sunday evening. The fact that the restaurant was open (unlike in other hotels in the area) was real bonus after a very busy day followed by a four hour drive. Buffet breakfast was 'standard German' - plentiful and of good quality. This is not a four star hotel with all the bells & whistles and a price to match, but a very acceptable budget stop over point. Both the rooms and meals were excellent value. Recommended
