This is a charming b&b within walking distance of Ballinrobe, although the town itself doesn’t have much going for it. Breakfast is served in a lovely room, and the choice is varied. There are several excellent local places of interest, but take an umbrella, as it rains a lot. Don’t miss Kylemore Abbey, Ashford Castle near Cong, Knocke & Ballintubber Abbey.

Endroit retiré en pleine nature, calme & reposant. Nous avons eu comme un appartement pour 2 ! Chambre très spacieuse. Bon accueil des propriétaires, petit déjeuner excellent. Dommage nous avons eu un peu froid.

Great value accommodation with surprisingly good quality food. Set in the Cornmarket, Ballinrobe, on the road to Headford and Galway, this basic but comfortable hotel provides self-catering and en-suite accommodation a few minutes’ walk from town centre. Note that some of the rooms can be very small. The Railway Inn provides a restaurant, a shared lounge and free WiFi and is just a short drive from the three main lakes that are such a big part of the area- Lough Corrib, Lough Mask and Lough Cara, all great for fishing and boating . A self-service breakfast is provided from 8am to noon and carvery lunch with daily specials are then available until about 3pm. The cabbage and bacon is a personal favourite. The nearest airport is 55 km away at the Ireland West Knock Airport, Knock, Co Mayo.
