The hotel largely chose us as we were needed a place that would let our little border terrier dog stay, and wasn’t too too expensive. We are very happy we ended up at La Taverne de Sophie. Huge clean room with smart modern decor and a beamed wooden ceiling, a comprehensive buffet spread for breakfast, kind friendly reception and cleaning staff (especially with our dog) and within walking distance of absolutely everything from eateries to the main Uzes square and from the supermarket to the countryside. We would return without hesitation. After six nights it truly felt like home.

John & Michel were the perfect hosts and have the perfect B&B location to see the sights in and around Uzes. This was our first trip to the region and Les Marronniers was just the place we needed. We were the last guests of the season but first in their assistance to make our stay delightful. I highly recommend this wonderful guesthouse. Don't hesitate to stay with John & Michel.

Saturday evening. Full. Happy to get a table. Service totally uncoordinated, slow and chaotic. Two three course menus at Euro 10 and 15 - excellent value for money. In the end credit cards could not be accepted because of technical problems. Our last visit was much better...we will give them another chance.

In the beautiful village of Saint-Siffret, only 5 minutes from Uzès, 1st Duchy of France, a warm welcome awaits you beneath the stone vaults of an 18th century former silkworm farm. There are three lovely bedrooms with exposed stones and beams, a swimming pool set in a mediterranean garden.
Going back to Saint Siffret again next month for what must be our fifth or sixth year!!! For those who want perfect peace and tranquillity and wonderful hosts in a beautiful little getaway Provencal village this must be the ultimate experience. My wife and I always take the ground-floor gite La Cigale - a large, spacious, well appointed room with a wonderful 'cave' shower room built out of the local limestone bedrock !!!Everything is always so clean and Pascale may even fetch your croissants from the small village supermarket even before you get up in the morning!!! The pool and its surrounds are absolutely idyllic and so tastefully laid out and are expertly tended by Ton on a daily basis. It is wonderful just to relax there and great for morning breakfast or an evening meal or drinks. Pascale and Ton are so warm, kind and really helpful with advice on anything you might want to know from the local area. St. Siffret sits on the edge of the hill and is one of the prettiest old medieval villages of the area with some wonderful architecture around its labyrinth of narrow streets. It has one restaurant - good, but a bit pricey - occupying the site of the former schoolhouse. The upper part of the village on the plateau is now fast becoming a residential area for people who may work in Uzes or even beyond. Uzes itself - the first duchy of France - is a great experience only some three miles away. Go on a Saturday morning - the market is renowned and the ducal palace and several churches are well worth a visit. There is so much of value in the wider area also - the tremendous UNESCO Pont du Gard site (only a few miles away), Nimes (the huge Roman arena), Avignon and Villeneuve (with the reminders of the Popes of the Middle Ages), while the sites of Arles, Saint Remy and even the Camargue delta and beaches are all within reach. Pascale and Ton are fantastic. They will always be there if and when you may need them, but they will never be intrusive. Thanks for wonderful holidays - a little bit of heaven deep in the Gard.
