Even though December is probably not the best month to visit Kuldīga, this hotel made our weekend escape quite amazing! Due to pandemic and not so many visitors, our booked room turned into a 2-floor cottage booking ... with open fireplace that helped us enjoy 4 hours enjoying the romantic evening. One can order food right to the room. Checkout time was prolonged free of charge. The lady at the kitchen is the most hospitable person I’ve ever seen))) Thank you!

The “Boutique Hotel Virkas muiža” is the only four star hotel in Kuldiga, located in 16th century manor built by the baron Fircks family. In the old days it was located in a village near Kuldiga, but today it is surrounded by an urban environment of the city. As they say, if you want to change the world – start with yourself, thus we have renovated the top floor and revealed the old-time wooden structures, which were hidden by the elements of various times that the manor has endured. The design was created by the owner of the manor and thus it is safe to say that every detail has been taken into account to make our guests feel as special and comfortable as possible. We also offer to stay in a special room for newly-weds with a balcony, a family room for 4 people, two Suite rooms with baths, as well as 13 double-rooms of various sizes with an option to separate beds. Eight economy-class rooms are located on the first floor as well as the seminar and dining halls, and a place to simply sit and enjoy the calm atmosphere of the manor. For those who have pets, there is a safe open place, just right next to the manor, where your pet can run around.
We’ve just visited Virkas muiža. It is a beuatiful building with its history. We booked one of the mansard rooms (Prepare yourself for some head banging at the ceiling). The room was nice, warm, quite small, felt clean. The reception was really nice. We had our dog with us, paid extra 15€ for that. It was super quiet, as it seemed, that we were the only guest there. As we stayed during the lockdown, there was only one dissapointment as it is not possible to eat in a restaurant. We paid for breakfast (15€ for two), but the presentation was poor. We received a takeaway bag with one croissant, small salad packed in a plastic tray and tetrapack juice. Seemed a bit overpriced at this point. However, it was tasty. Just felt a bit like a lunch bag at school. This place would have a huge potential, if it wouldnt have the Soviet buildings all around it.

Yeah, the TV was rubbish and beds a bit tired, but... 1. Location is excellent - in the middle of old town. 2. Neraby are all Kuldigas most important sights (incl waterfall, bridge, Catholic Church and St. Chatarina Church. 3. The breakfast was excellent. 4. Parking is free (in the heart of old town!). 5. We had there very good time. So - this is good hotel. Forget the TV - Kuldiga is just too beautiful - dont waste Your time there on TV in hotel!
