I have not actually stayed at the Ryokan but often visit the restaurant for dinner as I live near Kakiya. The restaurant offers a wide variety of typical Japanese dishes for a a very affordable price. The restaurant is located right along the ENODEN train line and is at a walking distance between Enoshima and Koshigoe station. The interior of the restaurant itself will you throw you back in Japan of the mid 70s or 80s , with the low chairs and tables and the dark brown wooden walls. However do not be fooled by appearances! the quality of the seafood is excellent! The restaurant being located in the KOSHIGOE area and being nearby a fishing port, I suppose they get the freshest of fish every day, which make it special to the local residents. The tempura are always large and crunchy, the soba is always so well prepared! If you are visiting Japan, and Kamakura make sure to try Kakiya for lunch or dinner during your excursion in the beautiful town. Kakiya may not be the romantic wine and candle dinner type restaurant, but if you want to taste real Japanese cuisine, Kakiya is the place. The middle aged waitress might appear a little unfriendly, but please understand that Koshigoe was a very local tiny fishing port only a few years ago, and has suddenly become a touristic area lately. They are still unsure how to communicate with foreigners but a smile will always open hearts!
