Glenardoch House

Superb

Reviewed By 18darleneb

We stayed here for 4 nights in July upon my arrival in Edinburgh and could not have asked for any better accommodation or hosts. The garden was delightful and the little touches in the room (Godiva chocolate and fresh fruit) made our stay memorable. The Scottish breakfast was amazing and the kippers for breakfast were a treat. Doune is also an excellent location to explore the area around Stirling. The Glenardoch is now the standard by which we judge a B&B!

Red Lion Inn

At over 200 years old, the Red Lion is a charming village Inn located in the centre of the picturesque village of Doune in central Scotland. The Inn has 6 bedrooms with 2 family room which can sleep up to 4. A friendly public bar serves a range of whiskey and local beers, while our restaurant offers fresh pub grub with a little finesse. Our Quaich suite is suitable for functions, meetings and events and opens onto a sunny courtyard.

Disappointing

Reviewed By X282BYpeterp

When we booked we were not told the pub did not have a licence at the moment. The bed was creaky in the extreme & the mattress had seen better days and was not at all comfortable. The grouting in the shower had black mould & the door was stained. Sink & pedestal cracked. When leaving was asked for £80 not the £50 quoted. Will NOT be back

A little bit of heaven

I am more than impressed with this property and our hostess Fiona who obviously takes a great deal of pride in the studio, and so she should I don’t think I have ever been so taken with anywhere I’ve stayed, and have fallen in love with The place. The studio is cosy, peaceful, and outstanding place to stay, from the tasteful decor, together with, the lovely personal touches, like robes, slippers , toiletries and a lovely welcome from Fiona with a few bits and peices to settle you in ( milk bread and so much more. . Everything is done with great care and attention, which show that a great deal of thought and pride has gone In to making the studio and grounds a taste of luxury. Great for a break from the rat race, of for a lovely romantic weekend. I challenge anyone to find anything negative about their experience staying here and I can say without any fear of contradiction, that once you have stayed here you won’t want to go anywhere else. I would give 10 stars if I could. Nothing short of perfect, worth every penny. Thank you Fiona

Lovely with great potential

The hotel is a beautiful building and the rooms are very large and spacious. Although slightly run down and in need of investment, it was hard to fault anything. The staff were delightful, breakfast sumptuous and plentiful and the rooms were spacious and very comfortable. It is a great stopping point for visiting all points North, West and East of scotland and the local area is beautiful. There is currently no provision for evening meals and the area has nothing but Dunblane is a 5 minute drive and has various good eateries. Overall this was a wonderful experience which exceeded my expectations.

Creity Hall Guest House

Creity Hall is a Victorian villa dating back to the late 1800s - It has undergone a major refurbishment by the current owners and now operates as a guest house as well as being a family home. Guest rooms are situated on the first floor and are all en-suite. Accommodation available on a room-only basis if preferred though breakfast is available in the guest dining room. Creity Hall is based a short walk from Doune village, home to Doune Castle, one of the film locations of the popular series of Outlander and Monty Python films. Also local is Deanston Distillery. The Trossachs and historic town of Stirling, with Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument and other buildings of historic interest are less than 10 miles away. There is a self-catering chalet also situated in the grounds, our guests frequently tell us that our location is a perfect spot to use as a base to travel round Central Scotland. Rooms are comfortable and stylish with underfloor heating and heated towel rails in all bathrooms. King size or superking sized beds in all guest rooms.

Kindest Host

This review is late in coming (we actually stayed in August 2018) but - Karen deserves every 5 star review on here. She was welcoming, gave us great advice, took time to treat us as though she didn't have a million things to attend to - which she did having a full house. She told us the house was designed with the idea of having a small wedding ceremony in mind, and we thought that would be terrific. The breakfast was very nice, with fresh eggs and several options. The room was comfortable and warm on a cool, rainy, summer day.

Very convenient nice room near Stirling.

Reviewed By Alta2

Bed was comfortable, Liz was welcoming and the breakfast was great! My bathroom was not attached, but next door and I didn’t have to share. Large TV to binge watch Outlander at night. This house is new and very clean and nicely decorated. I had Easy parking, the Duck Pond is a great. Town is quiet so you may have to go five miles or so for food with only one acceptable restaurant in town which is very small and needs to be prebooked. The only real things to do in Doune are the Castle (.7 miles from house) and a distillery which I am sad to have missed because it has good reviews.
