With a long history dating back to before the American Revolution, it's not a surprise that Carlisle is full of historic treasures, including a church once attended by George Washington and a courthouse damaged by artillery during the Civil War. Despite this impressive heritage, the city is most famous for being Pennsylvania's "automotive capital," hosting ten annual car, truck, and motorcycle shows that are attended by a half a million people each year.

AAA approved, historic property with spacious guest rooms (some pet friendly!) Easy access from I-81 or I-76 in Carlisle, PA; Conveniently located between Gettysburg and Hershey; Delicious breakfasts, overnight horse boarding also available.
We enjoyed our time at the Pheasant Field B&B. It is a small farm not far from the historic part of Carlisle. Breakfasts were awesome (and huge!). We were delighted with having a choice each day of a savory or a sweet dish. Our room was very comfortable. We especially liked that there was good lighting and two high-back chairs for reading. The owners, Robin & Kit were very attentive.

We have stayed here for the last ten years for the all Ford show in June. The location is ideal since it is within walking distance of all downtown restaurants and the Saturday night parade. Tim and Caroline are excellent hosts. The breakfasts are fantastic and usually include a quiche, fruit, pastry, juice and coffee or tea. This year they surprised us with a burrito, fruit with sauce, potatoes and cinnamon pastry sticks. The rooms are very clean and include a coffee pot and refrigerator with some drinks.

This turn-of-century mansion, once home to Lewis Sadler, has been restored to its full splendor. The mansion celebrates the legacy of life lived once by entertaining the biggest politicians of this country while providing modern-day comfort and amenities. Whether you are here for business or pleasure, you'll enjoy a restful night and wake up to the sound of birds in the middle of the park with a hearty breakfast, and then welcome the abundance of cultural and recreational activities the surround area has to offer, enough to satisfy any personality and desire.
We celebrated our 33rd anniversary with a two night stay at the Thornwald Mansion in Carlisle. This 1910 vintage estate has been through many changes, including a tragic fire prior to the current owners taking possession. Under current management, much of the mansion has been restored to near original splendor with additional work underway to add a spa and event center. We stayed in the Renaissance Suite which was well-decorated and comfortable. The hosts were attentive and involved in our stay and very eager to share about the history of the mansion and the work being done. A nice breakfast is included with the room. Shopping and dining are within walking distance or a short drive. Would definitely stay there again.

The Red Cardinal Bed & Breakfast sits among the farmlands and mountains in Cumberland County. We are an easy access from I-81 and I-76, yet our B&B is located on a scenic country road. We are an easy drive to all the major attractions: Carlisle Car Shows, the Appalachian Trail, Yellow Breeches Creek, Carlisle Army War College, Dickinson Collge, Dickinson School of Law, and Gettysburg Battlefield. We are 5 minutes from Boiling Springs and an hour's drive from Hershey and Lancaster.
Just returned from a stay at The Red Cardinal Inn & loved it. Beautiful setting, quiet, great food and Joann & Billy were lovely hosts. If by chance we are back to Carlisle we will definitely stay again. We were only booked for one night due to availability (so we stayed at The Carlisle House the 2nd night & wished we’d stayed at The Red Cardinal Inn instead). We stay at BnB’s all the time and this was one of our favorites.

Discover a new level of luxury and hospitality in the heart of historic downtown Carlisle, PA. Opened in 2018, The Smith Steiner features four gorgeously appointed guestrooms with all of the luxurious amenities the modern traveler needs. Each room is uniquely decorated with private en-suite bathrooms and features Yves Delorme fine linens and towels, Illy espresso makers, complimentary Wi-Fi, Aromatherapy Associates bath products, and top of the line mattresses. A delectable homemade breakfast using seasonal ingredients is served each morning and guests are welcome to enjoy the manager's reception every afternoon. Relax in one of our inviting guest areas including the expansive front porch, grand parlor, 2nd floor terrace, formal dining room and breakfast room.
The Smith Steiner is exactly what we've been hoping would open up in Carlisle for years - a luxury B&B that is a real treat. We discovered it back in 2019 but hadn't been able to stay until just this past week, and it somehow still exceeded expectations with all that hype. A stay in any of the rooms includes a great breakfast, and things like beer, wine, and snacks are included as well. The bed linens and towels are also top-of-the-line. You can pretty much walk to anything you'd want with downtown Carlisle being just a couple blocks away. The host was great, even accommodating my late arrival on the day right after Christmas.
