If you love the outdoors and hiking, the Rainbow Trail will fit your needs. The trail is easily accessible from several locations including US Hwy 285 south of Poncha Springs, and hikes are easily varied from short easy walks to multi-day explorations. My favorite time of year to visit is the fall, but we go often.

Silver Cliff Museum

The thoughtfully curated Silver Cliff Museum is a history treat for both families and history buffs. In this turn of the century firehouse, admire the rare hook and ladder wagon (decals of dragons!) and the trophies for the firemen who raced with it. Explore the secrets of silver mining in a town that once bustled with fortune seekers. Imagine ranch living with tools of the trade-- saddles, branding irons, all authentic. Upstairs, in the former town hall, see a real bank counter, the old post office boxes, paraphernalia of the barbershop and Chinese laundry (yes, run by an emigre from China). On the domestic front, sweet dolls and dresses, cradles and stoves, even an organ. My grandchildren's favorite --artifacts from the grocery store.

Usually open on weekends but often available by telephone appointment during the week. This is a wild west treasure not to be missed. Donations encouraged. You could 'do this' in less than in an hour but even my 7 year old wanted to stay longer.

4 mile hike from Zapata Falls. Takes about 2-3 hrs depending on level of expertise. Great day hike! Great variation of beautiful scenery. Take plenty of water and pack a lunch. Best to start early morning no later than 10 am. Can be chilly depending on time of the year. We hiked in may and there was snow up there and also in August with no snow but a light sweater was still good.

Music Meadows Ranch - Day Tour

Reviewed By Carrell P - Xenia, Ohio

My husband & I have a home in Westcliffe, CO where we reside part-time. For the past several years we've taken trail rides at Music Meadows. Each experience has been different but wonderful. One year we went with the ranch foreman to guide a bull back to his neighboring property, went up the meadows to count calves and round them to another grazing area. Another year we took our then 5 year old grandaughter for a trail ride. Elin was very patient in teaching her about her horse, worked with her in the round pen initially and then Elin ponied Nugget and grandaughter and off we went. Our latest ride was with the entire family and now both grandchildren. The kids had a blast and all experienced another wonderful memory!

Wonderful history of this former large cattle ranch. The Beckwith Ranch has been totally renovated/restored to it's former existence including period furniture. In fact, many pieces of furniture were donated by my husband & I including a burle cherry wood grand piano over a hundred years old.

Been going here for 50 years. The most beautiful scenery you can imagine. Whether it is early summer with snow capped peaks, or the fall colors of the aspens. Wow. Old western towns, mining town, cattle area. History abounds here. So much to do anytime of the year. Just go and enjoy.
