We had the tour with guide (the only way to visit the castle) but grease your legs, as it is a very tiring one. None but stairs, cellars, even in the belltower one can see the ancient old clock that still works after centuries. The cost is 40 Czech crowns, to make pix one does not have to pay extra. There is also asmall museum in the castle, but in my opinion only good to entertain children. The castle is complete worn down, which gives it a special aura. But if not renovated urgently, there won't be much castle left to visit in the near future.

The church was closed when we visited, but there is an open space in the entrancedoor, so one can make pix of the interior. This Gothic Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Marywith two Fountains from the 18th c. is one of the oldest buildings in the town. The St. Ann Chapel is in the northern part of the church. The valuable Baroque furnishings originate before the middle of the 18th century, and there is a beautifull Pieta. At the exterior is a statue of the Holy Nepomuk. Next to the is a bell tower of 1500 and reconstructed 1909.

The museum is part of the chateau, but is not included in the guidetour, so an additional fee needs to be paid to visit the museum. The fee is nearly as much as the 2 hours guidetour of the chateau whilst the museum is just a few roomd small. On display are some items about forrest, nature, and lumberjacks. Some stuffed animals can be spotted (taxidermia) and a few paintings. In the exhibition historical printing presses and books dating Vimperks as a centre of Czech printing in the 15th century, information about the National Park Šumava, the history of the city of Vimperk. Also exhibits from Bohemian glass, glass-blowing in the 17th century. and 18. century and the history of this historic region industry.
