Located in what used to be the original Ganong candy factory, The Chocolate Museum offers an interactive way to learn about candy making in St. Stephen - a tradition that has lasted over a century. Explore the history of the Ganong family, who still run the company, and the wonders of chocolate with our hands-on exhibits, interactive computer displays, historic chocolate boxes, and antique candy-making equipment. All of Ganong's hand-crafted products are made right here in the museum, allowing you to observe our famous hand dippers at work. Come to the Chocolate Museum to see why St. Stephen is known as "Canada's Chocolate Town".
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this museum is quite large and interesting. We learned all kinds of neat facts, got to see chocolate made, and got lots of samples of chocolate. I especially liked seeing the candies hand-dipped. While Ganong are not my favourite chocolates, this was a unique experience I would absolutely recommend.

We took our four kids for a picnic one day and walked around. There are beautiful views! There is a steeper way down to the beach near the historic home, which couldn't accommodate our stroller, but there was another path that we could get our stroller down. We saw a porcupine walking on the beach as we walked down the path! We visited twice and the visitor centre and washrooms were closed both times, but perhaps they are open in the summer. There is an outhouse we found, but BYOTP. ;) We also found the gates locked, although the signs said it was open, so we had to park on the road which was a little extra walk.

The Ganong Chocolatier store is a place where you’ll discover many old-fashioned chocolate varieties that have been made for over half a century. Each is an exquisite masterpiece of the confectioner’s art. Rich milk caramel, chocolate truffles, peanut butter cups, delicious double-dipped cherries, the one and only Ganong Original Chicken Bones and many, many more!
We were in St.Stephen for 3 days and visited here twice. You are able to pick your own chocolates as well as purchasing prepackaged chocolate. They also have a variety of other candy. If you have a sweet tooth, it is so hard to choose, and even harder to get out of store. Staff are lovely and very helpful. Loved going in there. I would have bought more but we still had travels ahead and didn’t want them melting in the car. Would definitely recommend.
