Solkan (pronounced [ˈsoːu̯kan] or [sɔu̯ˈkan]; Italian: Salcano, German: Sollingen or Salcano) is a settlement in the City Municipality of Nova Gorica in the Gorizia region of western Slovenia, at the border with Italy. Although it forms a single urban area with the city of Nova Gorica today, it has maintained the status of a separate urban settlement due to its history and the strong local identity of its residents.

Soca Fun Park is designed for entertainment of the whole family. Here you can lift yourself up into the tree crown and go on a journey trough the trees. You will observe and experience the landscape from a totally different perspective. Soca Fun Park is an adventure park where designed to activate all your senses on it’s challenge course.
Great staff, great park! We had a lot of fun, it cost 18€ (prices for adults) for the park and then 10€ for the long zip line that goes across the river.

A must see in the Solkan valley. The whole place with the monastery, the church, the surroundings is oozing with serenity. The views over the extremely beautiful Slovenian landscape is stunning. It is a Franceskan monastery in "full working order" with active brothers. There is a restaurant, but opening times unknown to me. When we visited in July it was closed during daytime. Maybe open on Sundays. The monastery also has a museum which is open on Sundays in conjunction with the mass. From Nova Gorica it's a mere 20 min ride by car to get uphill. Bus is also available to Grgar, if you'd like to hike up the last 2-3 km. Must see if you're in the Gorizia/Nova Gorica area!

Biggest stone-arch in Europe? Now serves local railway. If you are in the area - this is must stop and take some photos.
This countryside mansion was built in the second half of the 18th century, but precise data on the year of construction as well as the architect are not known. Inside there are several exhibitions: restoration exhibition, old believers, Games of our youth (toys exhibit) and an archaeology exhibit Langobards
One, two, three, go! Each generation calls certain toys and games "its own", which the previous or next generation is not familiar with. Do you still remember your favourite toy? At the exhibition, parents and children can guide one another around the exhibited toys and thus personalise their tour. You can see homemade toys, board games, video games etc.
