This was a nice three hour visit. I visited the Visitor Center, watched the movie, had a picnic lunch and then walked the 1.5 mile Battlefield Trail. I would recommend proceeding counter-clockwise from the Visitor Center--maybe a little less steep in that direction. There are plenty of nice benches along the way to rest and contemplate; I especially enjoyed the audio option, so take your cellphone to enjoy the narration along the way. And, as an added treat, at the tall white monument there were thousands of swarming lady bugs--a first for everything.

This is a lovely park with oodles of parking. The mountains have several trials that range from easy to...Elizabeth I'm coming to join ya (In my Feed Sanford voice). We took the Pinnacle trail. It took us about 2 hours...it is one of the strenuous trails...so if you're not about that life...don't take that one lol. Lots of opportunities for photography if you're into nature photography. Also has camp grounds if you wish to rough it over night. I think there is a cost...just check the website.

I live in Kings Mountain and have been to the Gateway Trail several times. It is a nice trail for casual hikers. The times I've been, I had children with me...ages 4-11. It's a nice hike for all ages because there isn't too steep a grade. I'm over 60 in fair health and can do the trail with only a couple stops for breath on the way up. It ends at the top of a small mountain with a nice overlook to a quarry. It's a good "exercise" trail. Senior citizens are often there for exercise. There are shady spots, but on a sunny day in summer, it could get uncomfortable. Wearing a hat and carrying a water bottle and wet cloth would be advisable in summer.

Entrepreneur Preston Brown has opened the first NEW drive in movie theater in the U.S. built in the past 20 years. It boasts having the largest outdoor screen in the U.S.. The bathrooms are clean, the concession stand has 4 windows to reduce wait time, and the ownership patrols the grounds regularly to ensure fellow patrons are being considerate and obeying the rules of courtesy. The concession prices are reasonable and they show 2 new release films back to back beginning at dusk. The cost is $12 per car. This is an unbelievable value for your entire family. I encourage yo all to take your kids to a trip back to " the good old days" and visit this new attraction in Kins Mountain.

Perfect way to spend a Saturday night in King's mountain. The performance was so authentic with local actors and talent in a completely refurbished old theater located in historic downtown, Kings Mountain. Dinner a block away, coffee shop open after the show let out for a nice close to the evening.

The Southern Arts Society, Inc. (SASi) is a non-profit organization founded in 1984 by A.B. Mauney Snow and local artists. Our mission is to promote the arts by training the artist and educating the public to the many talents available in the community.Free and open to the public to tour the galleries and be inspired.
To me, the most interesting thing about the Southern Arts Society is that they are located in the old Kings Mountain railroad depot. I can remember going to the depot as a child to pick up a swing set that my parents had ordered from the Sears catalog. There is usually some art work on display and for sale in the building. They also have traveling shows from time to time. I feel like the paintings and prints that are for sale are a little pricey compared to other places that I have visited. There is a small gift shop located inside the building which usually has handmade items for sale. These usually include jewelry, some pottery, prints, knitted items and so on. They usually have alot more for sale in December of each year. The prices for most of these items is reasonable but some of the jewelry is higher priced than alot that I have seen in other gallery gift shops. They also hand-screen a yearly calendar which is unique. If you are in the Kings Mountain area, the Southern Arts Society is worth stopping by to see.
