Discover the past, present and future of Minnesota's forests through guided tours of a 1900s era logging camp and hands-on environmental learning programs. Board the moored river "wanigan," a floating cook shack, take a seat on the porch of a 1930s Minnesota Forest Service patrolman's cabin, climb a 100-foot fire tower and explore the site's self-guided trails.
We went here on a short day trip from our lake place. It was a really neat experience. I'd highly recommend taking the tour which run about 1-1/2 hours. You will learn all about the life of a lumberjack, how they lived and even get some hands on experience. They also have some lovely hiking trails and a real fire watch tower to climb. It was a nice "off lake" day!

This modest house in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, was home to Judy Garland for her first four years. Come see where "Baby Gumm" got her start. We also have a Children's museum with many hands on activities for kids that will get their imaginations going. It sports a bakery, firehall, dress-up area, "sand" pit, water table, maze, treehouse and much more! If you are a teacher, visit our website today to plan a field trip! Many of our field trips qualify for a grant that helps you come for free!
Judy Garland was one of the most important talents of the last century. Her childhood home is easy to find, with plenty of free parking and filled with exhibits about her life. There are lots of toys for the children to enjoy. Outdoors is a...MoreThank you for giving us a great review! The carriage is one of my favorite, pieces in the museum too!

Take a step back in time as you tour the historic Gilbert Mansion, once home to one of the most prominent families in northern Minnesota. On your tour you will see 17 rooms of the mansion as you learn about the Gilbert family and early Grand Rapids history. Don't miss your opportunity to see what has been called "The Jewel of Itasca County."
My wife and I took the tour. There were six of us in the group and the lady who owns the mansion conducts the tour. Every room is beautifully restored and there is an interesting story around every corner. The floors, the many built-ins, the leaded glass windows (actually they used copper) and the many pictures from the turn of the century, made for an interesting tour. The owner is very personable and knowledgeable which made it lots of fun.

We offer a wide variety of hands on activities to spark the young (and not so young's) imaginations. There is a water table complete with locks and leveys, a dinosaur dig, firehall, doctors office, bakery, post office, music room, dress-up area, and a tree-fort. Just to name a few things! We are always adding new activities.
We went here just to see as we were at the Judy Garland house. They go over and above to have interesting and fun things yet informational. A really great place to bring kids.So glad you all enjoyed it! We love seeing people smiling and having a good time! (Even sneaking in a little learning)! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review! Have a good day!

This is an on going project. They have lovely displays of the area and it's residents and history. The basement is full of items that still need to be included in the displays. They have so much information on the area it's just amazing.

Awesome atmosphere. Laid back. Great selection of beers at a great price. 1st Brewery in Grand Rapids. They don’t have food, so we ordered wings to be delivered from a bar on the other side of town. Played a little cards. Visited with friends. Great time.
