If you want to go hiking away from the crowds in Bar Harbor and Acadia, come to the Schoodic Peninsula and enjoy the peace and solitude on this trail. It has amazing views from the top and is worth the trip.

We always wanted to visit Schoodic Point while at Mount Desert Island and did so just recently. The weather was perfect and so were the views. We rode our bicycles around the loop road and it was spectacular. We have visited many spots along the Maine coast but I think that we have a new favorite.

A National Scenic Byway that starts in Hancock Maine and proceeds along US route 1 through Sullivan where scenic look outs are located. You than turn onto Route 186 in Gouldsboro and proceed into Winter Harbor where the Schoodic section of Acadia National Park is located. The byway ends in Prospect Harbor where the last Sardine factory in the US was located.
Beautiful drive to take, many places to stop for photos, picnics, etc. You can drive, walk, hike or bike it.

A true 5&10 cent store. Featured in the Smithsonian magazine June 1994.
The 5 and 10 is an incredible resource in the little adorable hamlet of Winter Harbor. To say they have everything would be an understatement. Pete Drinkwater has perfected the art of small town general store. The ultimate shopkeeper, he cut his teeth at Kresge's in Pennsylvania. An old black and white photo of Mr. Kresge keeps watch over this amazing store. Walking around and just checking out the variety of goods and essentials as well as souvenirs is tourist heaven. Many items are not only made in USA, but in Maine as well. Do yourself a favor in Americana and visit with true Mainers......Winter Harbor 5 &10. Astounding small town charm, convenience, and value.

After a drive from Southwest Harbor, the Institute was a welcome respite from driving. The Institute campus is truly beautiful and the ocean vistas very ice. Staff at the Rockefeller Hall were very helpful and friendly. Bob O’Brien & Mary Daley Westfield, MA
