Ancient Ozarks Natural History Museum

We are proud to present the Ancient Ozarks Natural History Museum, built by Johnny Morris, to share the rich history of the Ozarks and the animals and people who came before us. Featured items in the museum include a woolly mammoth, a saber toothed cat, giant ground sloth skeletons and prehistoric cave bears. Through artifacts, images, text and video you’ll learn about the Ozarks and the people and animals that lived here over 12,000 years ago up through the Civil War era. Nowhere else can outdoor enthusiasts, families and history buffs experience, in chronological order, the history of the Ozarks documented so thoroughly.

My wife and I visited this museum yesterday and were amazed at the collection. BC relics along with items from the past 2000 years. Johnny Morris has amassed an incredible collection of ancient Indian artifacts of incredible quality and preservation. Would highly recommend this museum and makes the visit to Big Cedar Lodge spectacular.

Big Cedar Lodge

It was perfect winter weather and perfect time to enjoy a log cabin in the woods with a great stone fireplace. We had some initial challenges getting the damp logs going, but their staff brought extra kindling that got the cozy fire going. We enjoyed three quiet days reading in front of the fireplace. The cabin had everything you needed, nice kitchen setup, great bathroom and toiletries. The king bed was very comfortable. This is our go to place for a nice winter trip. We had snow showers one day- perfect. We also enjoyed two nights dinner at Devils Pool Resturant, breakfast at Truman House and drinks and appetizers at Buzzard Bar.

We had a friend recommend coming up here for lunch, did not really know what to expect. There is a $10.00 fee to park, at the entrance. We thought about doing the golf cart, but it was $42.00 a person, so that was a no! The girl said to take the free shuttle to the top and said it was worth seeing. Boy was she right!!! We explored the restaurant’s four stories, walked around the grounds, went in the cute chapel, were in awe of the giant sink hole that did away with the driving range and pond. Wow!!! Saw beautiful Native America works of art all through the restaurant. Did not do the museum, but will next time. Took tons of pictures. The $10.00 parking fee is all we spent, plus I did buy a $12.00 ornament in the gift shop. Definitely do this little excursion!
