6 Things to do Good for Kids in Pocatello That You Shouldn't Miss

January 2, 2022 Vivienne Hutton

Surrounded on three sides by snow-capped mountains, Pocatello is a beautiful small city in the heart of eastern Idaho. The unspoiled wilderness in and around the city is perfect for cross country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter or hiking and biking in the summer. The Pontneuf River Greenway running through town is popular for jogging and strolling in warmer climes. For a more cultured vacation, try any of the city's theaters, dinner museums or outdoor bandshells for live entertainment.

Museum of Clean

Wow! This place was on our road trip agenda as a casual quirky stop. How wrong we were! Absolutely fascinating collection of antique, vintage and inventive products dedicated to everything associated with cleaning. While touring the 4 floors of extensive (and priceless!) exhibits we encountered the owner and founder Don Aslett who (at 86 years young!) personally led us to his most prized collection items. He autographed one of his many published books for us as well. Our planned hour visit turned into almost 3 hours of sheer, good clean fun! The museum is lovingly curated, perfectly laid out and immaculately managed. I encourage all families and folks to take a trip to Pocatello to see this marvelous curiosity of a museum - assuredly impressive to one and all!!!!

Fort Hall Replica

Reconstruction of an old trading post.

Reviewed By MonteH_12 - Casper, United States

Not being familiar with Idaho my husband and I visited the Bannock County Historical Museum which includes the replica of old Fort Hall. Initially we had thought it to be a military fort and learned that it was established as a fur trading post in the 1830's! Later it serviced the pioneers traveling on the Oregon Trail. The docent guide that led us through the replica was very well educated on the history of the Fort and was a delightful storyteller, particularly good with young children getting them to experience the artifacts "hands on" by lifting the flintlock rifle, the blacksmith hammer, and muskrat trap. We spent the larger part of an hour on a very hot day truly enjoying ourselves in learning about the history of Idaho.

Zoo Idaho

It was a great zoo to take the grandchildren. While it only took an hour to see everything, the kids loved it. Upon seeing the exhibits, there is also a play area with a slide up in a tree-lined deck. Also, the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating.
