Xinfu Market was established in 1935, and has been designated as the historical site of Taipei City in 2006. Ximen Red House - Ximending

Full of tourists, but with street performances and shows to entertain kids and adults alike. A fun and affordable place to shop for souvenirs and eat street food.

The Ximen Red House is in the Wanhua District. It was built in 1908, during the Japanese colonial era (1895-1945). It was built of red bricks. It has had many uses, most particularly as a public market. Today is has a number of small retail outlets, selling souvenirs and other bits and pieces. "Ximen" means "West Gate", it's an area popular with young people.

Highly recommended if you want to buy Taiwanese goodies (snacks, tea, etc.) at more reasonable prices compared to purchasing at the touristy areas. Lots of interesting local goodies too. If you intend to buy a lot of things to bring back home, they also offer tax refund.

There were some specialty vendors set up around the square... quality vendors inside also... we enjoyed browsing, and the building itself has lots of history...

Longshan Temple Underground Shopping Bazaar

The Longshan Temple Underground Shopping Bazaar is located below Mengjia Park between Guangzhou Street, Xiyuan Road, Heping West Road and Sanshui Street. This is Taipei's first two-level underground mall. In addition to the four surface level entrances, there are also two underground entrances and an entrance linked to Longshan Temple MRT Station. The station entrance is the most convenient way to access the mall. There are 48 shops here selling general merchandise, cosmetics, light meals, and even fortune-telling items.
