Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center

This museum honors World War II flying ace Richard Bong and all veterans.

The museum is small but filled with history of World War 2 and the history of who the museum was named after, Richard Bong. A true American hero who shot down more planes than any other American in the war where is count was 40 and went on to be a true hero of his generation. A lot of Nazi artifacts as well as other countries that are on display. If you are into history especially World War 2 you will love it!! A bit spendy but worth the extra few bucks spent.

Fairlawn Mansion & Museum

Built as the family home of mining and lumber baron Martin Pattison, the four story, 42 room mansion was completed in 1890 at the cost of $150,000; estimated at today's costs to be well over $3 million. The exterior and first floor of the mansion have been completely restored to the original splendor, with gilded murals on the ceilings and frieze, a grand entrance hall and open staircase, marble and tile fireplaces, and original leaded and stained glass windows. The second floor of the mansion includes access to master bedroom suite, furnished much as it was during the Pattisons’ time in the house. The third floor is dedicated to the Children’s Home era from 1920 to 1964, when the mansion served as a home to the less fortunate. It also includes the restoration exhibit, featuring documentation of the extensive work performed during the 1999 restoration of the mansion.

We loved our tour of the mansion. Our tour guide, Nolan, was able to answer all the questions my very inquisitive family had. He was upbeat, knowledgeable and fun. We learned a lot about the building, the town and the people who resided there. What a neat place and very enjoyable tour. Thanks!

This brewery has great beer with outdoors bar feel. I would definitely recommend this brewery to anyone in the Duluth area! It is so close to Duluth, as it is right off of the bridge to Super. Crisp high five is a must try!

A World of Accordions Museum

This museum is all about the accordion.

With 1400 instruments categorized in the lower level, and a church venue for performances, this place has ample room for you to visit and learn about accordions. The curator Helmi does classes and fixes instruments, as this is also a school for learning. We were given a guided tour on our visit and the guide who is an adult student was filled with valuable information. They were hospitable and welcomed our group in a way that worked well during the covid restrictions. Many in our group (many from out of state) said this was one of their favorite stop on our 4 state tour.
