The Northern Light Cinema

Films are great aren’t they? Everyone loves a good movie, whatever a ‘good movie’ means to them. The Northern Light Cinema aims to put the fun back in film, making a trip to the flicks not just about watching great movies but about having a great night out. To compliment our range of films, our bar serves a great range of beers, wines and spirits. All served to help wash down the range of Mediterranean-inspired food, perfectly sourced and presented. All this, tucked away in the old Malthouse on North End, here in Wirksworth, the hidden gem of the Peak District. The Northern Light Cinema – doing films differently.

Dovedale

The National Trust is a registered charity. With your help, we protect some of the most important spaces and places in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We take care of historic houses, gardens, mills, coastline, forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, nature reserves, villages and pubs - and then we open them up for ever, for everyone. Dovedale valley is owned and cared for by the National Trust, with important woodlands, wildflower meadows and impressive limestone rock features throughout the valley. Please note; there is a privately owned car park a short and easy walk from the famous Stepping Stones. This is not a National Trust car park. The nearest National Trust car park is a mile away at Ilam Park, where National Trust member can park for free. There are toilets beside the Dovedale car park and these are owned and maintained by the Peak District National Park Authority. There is a charge of 20p to use these toilets.

Lovers' Walk, Matlock Bath

We visited Lovers Walk with our golden labrador Hugo. The path was well defined but was a little steep in places for my partner who suffers with a bad knee. The views from the top were lovely but in places there were sheer drops and we were worried our dog might venture off the path and fall down. Luckily this didn't happen. The circular walk gave views to Gulliver's Kingdom and the cable cars as well. At the end if the walk there were several fish and chip shops and several ice cream, chocolate and fudge shops. Of course we could resist. A pleasant hour spent here

It was my birthday on Sunday 31st January – three score years and ten. As family and friends can’t get together, I arranged for around 30 meals to be provided around the country – around the world – to be delivered / collected between 12 and 12.30. My grateful thanks to Alison at THE CRISPIN INN ASHOVER; Chris at The Spoons and Forks, Mold; Nikki at The Three Cottages, Hasland; Heidi Waterfield in Market Harborough; Treats Café in Weston-Super-Mare; other suppliers in Narborough and the Farmer’s Market in Hasting (New Zealand) for their most helpful, courteous and understanding co-operation in making this happen during a time when people can’t get together. All excellent food and all helped family and friends to be together at a ‘virtual’ birthday party. If you have a (special) birthday coming up and you want to arrange something ‘special’ at this time, please speak to these lovely lovely people. They too are special, and they too miss the regular contact with their customers. Thank you each. You have made my day and brought a smile to many faces today. At the moment, being able to do that is just MAGIC!
