The flagpole and memorial can be visited at any time. Flag Facts: 70- by 140-foot flag is the world's largest free-flying American flag. Tallest flagpole in North America--nearly 100 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty. 400-foot flagpole weighs approximately 420,000 pounds. Over 500 gallons of paint cover the pole. 11-foot diameter at base tapers to 5 1/2-foot diameter at top. Three pendulum-style tuned mass dampers reduce movement and vibration. Designed to withstand a low temperature of -42 degrees Fahrenheit. The 9,800-square-foot flag, which weighs 340 pounds, is more than four times the size of the average U.S. home. Each star is nearly 3 feet across and each stripe is over 5 feet high. Acuity is proud to dedicate the Veterans memorial at the base to all who assure our freedom and to those that continue to serve. We owe our gratitude and thanks for their service and sacrifice. There are more than 750 inscribed pavers at the base of the pole that list the names of every Sheboygan County Veteran killed in the line of duty. A full list of names along with a map with the location of each can be found in a free handout at the base of the flagpole. The flag may be taken down temporarily during times of maintenance (please check our website) or severe weather. The flag will be lowered to half staff during official observances.
Every time I drive by this proud and beautifu flag flying in front of the Acuity Insurance building, I get a sense of pride and love for our country. When it is unfurling in the breeze, this huge flag is a sight to see and can be seen for a long distance. Take notice anytime you are driving down I-43 in Sheboygan. You can't miss it and will drive away with a sense of pride.

My husband, daughter and I headed out of town for a little day trip. I had seen the Lottie Cooper here and we wanted to check it out. It is easy to access, even for individuals who have trouble walking. Walking through it is like walking through history! There is information plaques throughout and they are a fun read. This is a cool spot to bring kids to introduce them to a touchable piece of Wisconsin history.

Highway 42 (WIS-42) is both a route my mother and I would take to see my grandmother who lives along WIS-42 between Howards Grove and Manitowoc, and a route that my family would take to get from Manitowoc to Sturgeon Bay. The best part about driving along WIS-42 was both on Memorial Drive in Manitowoc/Two Rivers (Trivers) and on the historic 1931 Sturgeon Bay Bridge (Michigan Street Bridge) in downtown Sturgeon Bay. I heavily recommend driving along WIS-42 if coming to Sturgeon Bay from Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Chicago. The only thing that's dangerous about it is driving when it's foggy out, as was demonstrated on I-43 near Cedar Grove on October 11th, 2002. Otherwise, it's a nice drive along the Schooner Coast (Stretch of Lake Michigan from Manitowoc to Sturgeon Bay, named after the schooners built in the communities in between the two cities), and along the Door County Scenic Byway (Sturgeon Bay to Northport). SIDE NOTE: I was quite surprised to see this as an attraction in Sheboygan.
