Pleasant drive along the Algsrve coastline to the most south Western point of mainland Europe. Views outstanding and FREE parking. Cafe and shops at lighthouse, however unable to have access to lighthouse.

If you in Sagres, (and have a car) this is close by and worth visiting. It has a nice shop and sweeping views of the coast! Be sure to bring your camera.

We were staying less than 30 mins away so this was a "must do" to visit the southern most point in Europe... Free parking in a large car-park or the road just outside with views from the cliffs. Inside the entrance fee was 3 EUR or only 1.5 EUR each for a family of 4 so for 6 EUR total this was great value. There are a few buildings to explore and fort walls to climb but the highlight is undoubtedly the walk around the perimiter along the cliff/wall edge. From here there are amazing views, stunning rock formations and some intersting and unusual plants, many explained with information boards. One view is to the lighthouse on the Western most point - 10 mins drive away and our next stop. Free toilets and a small shop available. Highly recommended place to spend an hour or two but hold on to your hats, it was pretty windy too!

A visit to the port and fish market is well worth a visit. Good local caught fish served upstairs in the Fishermen's restaurant with a jug of local wine goes down a treat. Watch the commercial and local fishing boats come and go and unloading their catch on the quayside.

I remember this little fort from 26 years ago - the restaurant inside served Portuguese dishes and big chips to die for. The grass around the cannon was like walking on a dense piled carpet and the view from the turrets, as you see, spectacular. Unfortunately the sea has caused massive corrosion and therefore for safety reasons it had to be closed and padlocked. This is still a wonderful piece of history, well worth stopping for and if, per chance, you had a spare couple of million, it would be fantastic to see this little fort saved from the sea. Please take great care, especially with children.
