Rye is a city in Westchester County, New York, United States. It is separate from the town of Rye, which has more land area than the city. Rye city, formerly the village of Rye, was part of the town until it received its charter as a city in 1942. The population was 15,720 at the 2010 census. Rye is the youngest city in New York state. No other city has been chartered anywhere in New York state since 1942.

Jay Heritage Center

The Jay Estate in Rye is the childhood home of US Founding Father, John Jay and generations of his descendants. Located within the Boston Post Road Historic District this National Historic Landmark in Rye, NY boasts breathtaking views and is home to unique programs in American History, Social Justice, Architecture and Environmental Stewardship. Visit this NY State Path Through History site and travel from Paleo-Indian settlement times to the Revolutionary War, to the Golden Age of Sailing. Visitors to this Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area destination and African American Heritage Trail site can learn about the Jay family's antislavery legacy and hear stories of the enslaved and emancipated families that lived and were buried at the site. 1838 Jay Mansion Tours: Sun. 2 - 5pm, April to November; 1907 Carriage House Hours: Wed. to Fri. 10am - 4pm, April to December. Group and school tours also available by advance appointment. Grounds open dawn to dusk all year.
