There are now 3,475 Commonwealth servicemen of the First World War buried or commemorated in this cemetery. 2,263 of the burials are unidentified and there are special memorials to 23 casualties known or believed to be buried among them. Other special memorials record the names of three casualties buried in a cemetery at Flers, whose graves could not be found.
We have been to the A.I.F. Burial Ground a few times now. Each time, visiting to take photographs of lads' headstones, in order for another to commemorate them with an image. Although its address is given as Flers, it is nearer to the village of Gueudecourt - being found less than half a mile west of that village. It is accessed by a track called Grass Lane and a handful of cars can park on this Lane. The entrance gate slopes down from this Lane and, thus, can get waterlogged, as one of my photographs shows. It is a quiet, peaceful cemetery with wide vistas all around.
