The Potters Barn is a working pottery where you can look at the finished pottery on display and where it is made or even have a go yourself. You can “Play with Clay”, Paint Pottery or have a go on the Potters Wheel. You can also take pottery classes or craft courses such as Longbow Making, Stone Carving, Glass Fusing, Silversmithing etc., have a Birthday, Hen or Stag Party or even enjoy some creative corporate teambuilding.
I stumbled across the Potters barn when I was looking for a gift for my girlfriend. Starting the booking process was really easy and Andrew responded very quickly to my questions by email. I asked if I could have vouchers made which was no problem at all. I was given a year to use them for a beginners pottery course at the barn near Sandbach in Cheshire. On the day we arrived we were greeted by Andrew and shown to the lovely room where we would learn how to hand make clay items. Very friendly and knowledgeable, Andrew was very patient and showed us both the techniques required to turn the lump of clay into a really nice chalice, adopting any design we so wished! We then returned downstairs to meet Stephen who showed us the art of spinning pots on the wheel! From start to finish this activity was really good fun; Stephen hilarious and so friendly, really patient and showing us that we could really do it. In total over a half-day course we made two pots on the wheel each and a hand built pot each. We had the option to have them put in the kiln and a colour painted on: for the fun of it we elected to have all of our work finished. We just had to visit one month later to go and pick them up. I never thought that I would enjoy having a go at pottery as I’m a ‘techie IT guy’ but it was a great way to spend a Friday and learn something completely new! To be really good at this practice makes perfect and Andrew and Stephen certainly are these experts with many years under their belts; however great instructors adding humour, fun and enjoyment with their easily followed guidance. I will be purchasing further training from them for the two of us and also considering sending family there for them to also enjoy the beginners course. Highly recommended, great friendly people and an all-round wonderful experience. Thank you Potters Barn!
