On our recent visit to Dunster on the eastern edge of Exmoor, we were so charmed by the village, and its history, that we spent the whole day just enjoying its various sights. St. Georges was our day's final visit, and as the dusk was decending we entered this vast and imposing church. I won't spoil the story, but it has a most interesting history, as well as a very fine rood screen (clue: this is part of that story). We were also moved by the "silent exhibit", a series of outlines, representing lost military persons, which were part of the Armistace Day commemorations. There was ample evidence elsewhere that this is a living church with all sorts of activities in each and every corner. The altarpiece is truly magnificent with a nod to the mythical George and Dragon, but the real star is the enormous wagon roof which somehow survived the iconiclasts and Cromwell.

This fully operational water mill is a little gem, wonderfully restored to its former glory, A tour gives you an insight to the ingenuity of the craftsmen of a bygone age. I bake all my own bread so use the mill as my flour provider, they sell several types of flour all available in the shop. I buy in bulk, so order a sack in advance but they will produce to a very short timescale, if you make your own bread it is well worth a visit just for that.

Lovely place lovely old building great afternoon looking around. Some of the shops close due to Covid 19 but still worth a visit

This is a great Dovecote complete with the working interior ladders and platforms. Gives a really good idea of how they worked.

Tucked away in a beautiful spot within Dunster Village the 57-tree Orchard provides a venue for traditional events such as Wassailing in January and a Village Picnic in July. It provides a beautiful setting for villagers and visitors to hold their own picnic and look out across Conygar, Dunster Village and the Bristol Channel.
