It’s been 200 years or so since he lived here, but Mozart is still very much Salzburg’s favorite son. Visit the composer’s residence and birthplace, then explore the Altstadt (Old City), taking in the baroque architecture. If your musical tastes run more "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens" than "Requiem in D Minor," catch one of the many Sound of Music tours and follow in the footsteps of the Von Trapps.

We attended opera, recital and symphony performances in the Grosses Festspielhaus. The seating was reasonably comfortable and the acoustics were fine. The performances during the Salzburg Festival were topnotch.

Best classical chamber music: Bach, Mozart, Haendel, Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Dvorak, Liszt ect. in the most beautiful baroque style concert hall of Salzburg: The famous Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace. Enjoy a "Salzburg Palace Concert" where even young Mozart performed for the Salzburg royalty!
Mozart's hometown Salzburg has many attractions, and Mirabell Palace is one of the major attractions. Although the exterior of infamous Mirabell Palace building and its breathtaking garden are open to public, the elegant Marble Hall of the palace is not open to public except for special events. Mirabell Palace Concert is one of those special events when the concert goers can have a chance to enter the elegant and charming Marble Hall. Listening to light classical music by Mozart and other composers in such an elegant palace hall was an unforgettable experience. I ordered the ticket for one of the palace concerts via "Viennaconcerts" online site in advance, receiving an e-mail confirmation. There were 2 categories of tickets: Category I ticket (Numberred seats for € 40 per adult) & Category II ticket (Open seats for € 34 per adult: Seats behind or sides of Category I seats). I bought Category I ticket to get a good seat. On the day of the concert, I entered the palace through the side entrance of Mirabell Palace 35 minutes before the concert time, and walked up to the Marble Hall's waiting room. There were many people already standing along the walls in and out of the waiting room. Instead of standing behind them, I passed them, and walked straight to the counter with "Tickets" signs inside the waiting room. There, I showed my printed e-mail confirmation to a ticket agent behind the counter, who looked at the confirmation e-mail and gave me a slip showig my seat number. Then, I waited alongside a wall with other people who had already received their seat slips. When we were called to enter Marble Hall, I went in and sat on my designated seat. The walls and ceilings were so elegantly decorated, and the chamber music was so delightful. It was a marvelous and memorable experience.
