We needed a hike after days at a beach resort, this place offers highly paved trail around slough (2+ miles) , a nicely paved trail in the woods (0;8 miles) and 0.5 hikes on trail and is attached to longer trails on Spanish River. There were plenty of wildlife to keep one entertained and all adjacent to a wonderful library. Very much enjoyed!

This is a large and very varied park. All of which is immaculate. We came for a nice open-air walk, no golfing this trip. Although most people were not wearing makes, it was a nice breezy day and you could always move away from people. It is such a calm and happy place. From the father/son flying a kite, people playing in the dog run with their dogs, picnics under the pavillions to people using watercraft. Everyone is enjoying themselves. So many things to do here. We even saw a bunch of adults playing Dodge ball. Plenty of open space. Worth the drive.

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center

This 20 acre coastal preserve is a destination you don’t want to miss! Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is surrounded by a rare remnant of tropical hardwood hammock, located on a barrier island in Boca Raton. Take a stroll through the butterfly garden, where many species of wild butterflies can be seen year-round. Walk the Ashley Trail and relax in the authentic Chiki overlooking the Intracoastal. A variety of native fish and other marine animals reside in marine aquariums. Visit the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Facility to learn about our sea turtle patients. Indoor displays feature wildlife indigenous to South Florida and a series of stained glass windows depicting the coastal island as it may have appeared in the 1500s. Florida Atlantic University has an onsite marine biology laboratory with a gallery for viewing research projects conducted by university scientists. Purchase imaginative and environmentally friendly gifts from our nature-themed gift shop.

This is a must see.. turtle rehab, FAU grad student with tons of information, well informed and enthusiastic volunteers, lovely gift shop, and nature trails. I loved the butterfly garden and walking in the woods. This is a,”pay as you will” venue. I am so happy to be able to recommend this gem.

We really enjoyed our walk on the beautiful brand new elevated boardwalk. We knew it was going to be great when we saw the gator and variety of turtles in the water from the bridge leading to the paths. There are two out and back paths. The .1 mile path has a three story observation tower at the end. The .2 mile paths is a nice meandering walk thru the trees. There is even an easy kid friendly Geocache in the parking lot!!!!
