Recommended by the motel owner, we went to Lake Ellery. The track was well formed, very easy walk. The lake was beautiful with reflections of trees. We had a lovely time there.

The Gates of Haast bridge on SH 6 (Haast Highway) provides spectacular views of the Haast River as it cascades through a deep gorge full of boulders. The bridge can be accessed on foot, from a nearby car park, for better viewing.

We went for wander along the beach. Lots of driftwood and stones - found plenty of greenstone (well they were stones and they were green!) - very pleasant conditions to walk in - would suggest barefeet as shoes picked up lots of sand - just make sure you have shoes before trying to walk on the road as the surface is kind of rough. Very peaceful - recommend (on a fine day anyway)
