Đồng Nai (Vietnamese: [ɗə̂wŋm naːj] ( listen)) is a province in the Southeast region of Vietnam, located east and northeast of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). The largest city in Đồng Nai is Biên Hòa. Prior to Vietnamese colonization, the area was dominated by the Funan, Chenla, Khmer empire and subsequent influences until 1627. The area was known as Kâmpéâp Srâkatrey (កំពាប់ [កំពប់] ស្រកាត្រី) in Khmer.

Dong Nai Culture And Nature Reserve

The nature reserve protects over 72,000ha of unique forest and jungle habitat and is one of the most ecologically important areas in Vietnam. You could spend a day here or an entire week exploring the jungle, Tri An Lake and local rural area in this unique region of southern Vietnam. Local Vietnamese escaping the city have been visiting this region for a long time, however foreign tourists are still a very rare site. There are a number of activities that can be done in the reserve including mountain biking, hiking, camping and overnight stays in forest ranger stations, historic tours of famous war relics, fishing, boating and swimming in Tri An Lake, local homestays, visits to organic farms and tours showcasing everyday rural life in the Vietnamese countryside. Most actives and tours should be organized in advance, as tourism is still low in the area. Contact the nature reserve and they can assist with organizing customized day trips or multi-day tours to suite your interests.

Cat Tien Park

Cat Tien National Park is a vast lowland tropical forest and biosphere reserve in southern Vietnam. It’s home to centuries-old trees, botanical gardens and recreational trails. The park also shelters diverse wildlife, from reptiles at Crocodile Lake to endangered primates and rare birds.

This park is a quiet green oasis, a rare spot in Vietnam. When we arrived here from HCMC, it was like a relief from all the big city noise. You can make different tours in the park and admire its wildlife. So good to see that this piece of nature is being preserved for future generations, in a country where nature always had to make space for man. We did the hike to the Crocodile Lake, the night safari and the gibbon trek.
