6 Museums in Road Town That You Shouldn't Miss

June 20, 2021 Concepcion Newsome

The former haunt of pirates, the Dutch and the English and Tortola's main town, Road Town is within reach of secluded beaches and hidden coves. The island displays the same leisurely pace as other British Virgin Islands, with festivals and regattas across the calendar. Helicopter and sea charters and diving are popular activities. On land, the ruins of Fort Burt and the still functioning Callwood Rum Distillery provide fun daytrips. Catch a cab between sights or rent a car to get out of town.

For the last several years we had been making our way on foot from the cruise port to the Sunny Caribbee Spice Shop & Art Gallery for a visit (what lovely smells, sights and tastes!) and an inevitable shopping spree. We were sad to discover that this spice shop and art gallery were severely affected by the hurricane in 2017, and are now closed. However, the attendant at the tourist desk in the port told us that some of the Sunny Caribbee products are now available elsewhere in the cruise port shopping complex. Will be worth exploring further on our next visit.
