I just visited the museum with my parents who are in their 80s and 90s and walk very slowly and with a cane. The staff was extremely helpful putting out chairs for my parents so they could sit while listening to the tour guide and enjoying both the museum and the WP Snyder, Jr. boat. If you can go up and down a full flight of stairs, you can navigate the WP Snyder, Jr! A big thank-you to the incredible staff.

This exhiblt as part of Americcan History and Ohio History learned in our public school system during the 1960s is a refresher as to how Marietta OH and Athens OH has been founded as part of the Northwest Territory breaking up from the original Virginia colony in 1788 just before founding of Ohio in 1803 as a 17th state among the earliest after the founding of the original 13 colonies. This depicts such historicans such as Rufus Putnam who drew up the Northwest Terrritory and also established the First University in Athens OH called Ohio University in 1804. Please bear in mind that it was the first established west of the Alleghanies and located in such a remote are only next to S Court Street and Union Street until the enlargement of the East and West Greens around Athens OH beginnning recently in the late 1950s. Since then this campus has rapidly expanded to over 22000 students in much of Athens OH with very little room to move around lately. Although the present student afffairs building Baker Center which overlooks the newly renovated Hocking River Valley and the visitor center located south of Athens downtown on Richand Avenue are encouraged to visitors to view during daytime business hours, however not at this time due to the upcoming health crisis in athens County. However parking is a challenge in Athens OH due to the overcrowding on that campus.
