Area Note 1: The pre-expansion area of city limits was 105.6 sq.km. The 2010 expansion order added 12 local bodies and increased the total area to 265.36 sq.km. In 2011, three of the local bodies Vellalore (16.64 sq.km), Chinniampalayam (9.27 sq.km) and Perur (6.40 sq.km) were dropped from the expansion and Vellakinar (9.20 sq.km) and Chennavedampatti (4.5 sq.km) were added. The area post expansion is 246.75 sq.km.

The GEDEE CAR MUSEUM, the only classic car museum of its kind located in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, South India, has a collection of unique cars not to be seen anywhere else in India. The cars are a private collection of G D Naidu Charities, a social trust founded by late Sri. G D Naidu of Coimbatore, who was a renowned inventor, educationalist and philanthropist of his time.
If you are an Auto enthusiast, GEDEE Car Museum should be on your list. One can surely experience the nostalgia while visiting this historic and one of a kind museum in India. It was surprising to find such a museum in Coimbatore, known more for its textile prowess rather than being home to such a unique idea. Full marks to great visionaries who envisaged such a great thought and presented it to world. One can see many vintage automobiles, right from early Benz Motorwagen (1886), Ford T (1908), to Indian Mass Market car Nano. The Museum is categorised by the countries in which cars were made. Many early engines used in iconic models are on display and one has to just pause and admire the vision and perseverance of these great luminaries who played monumental role in growth and evolution of automobile industry.
