A great find away from the city. I would definitely recommend a car if staying here as you are a bit cut off from the city. The hotel has a great atmosphere which is down to the two fantastic owners (Luz and Patrick - hope i got their names correct). I could not speak much French but was able to communicate happily. The food on offer was fantastic and a good value. Plenty of cold beer and nice wines to choose from with a house cocktail each day. The rooms were very spacious and clean, the pool was nice and i felt very "looked after". I would definitely go back.

Just on overnight stay during October. The manager was soo helpful , evening meal delicious and pool a welcome chill area. In French Guyana you don't get indoor pools because it's warm enough outside. Views out to garden more favourable. Area around hotel is residential so is peaceful at night. A short drive from downtown Cayenne.

your hotel "La Marmotte" is in an ideal location: only 5 minutes from the airport, at the entrance of matoury, and 15 minutes away from Cayenne. 25 rooms and 5 appartments, quiet and cosy! Web corner, swimming pool, wifi access, parking, restaurant, open 7days a week and 24hours available !
The stay was very nice, the front desk staff were friendly, accommodating and Nicolas, the Director - very helpful and engaging. The hotel was a bit far from the centre of Cayenne, and by taxi, quite expensive, but I knew this beforehand. The restaurant was excellent. My room was fine. The price points were acceptable. The pool was on the small side, but nonetheless, it was a clean pool and very welcome after a long day of sight seeing. Aside from the hotel and property, when arriving by plane for example, from Belem at a very early hour, there were no taxis. This could have complicated things, but with perseverance and creativity, I did find a taxi driver who took me to the hotel. Taxis are very expensive in French Guyana. The very helpful hotel staff told me when going into Cayenne, if I wanted to avoid taking taxis, that I should exit their property and walk left along the highway for about 4 intersections (not big intersections) (less than 10 minutes walk) , and then just behind an identifiable City Hall, there was a bus stop where the bus went to the centre of Cayenne, where you could walk around - avoiding China town. It cost only 2 or 3 Euros each way. It is important to note - and as thankfully advised by the hotel staff, that if returning to the hotel by bus, to do so no later than 4, latest 5 in the afternoon. Why? Because the highway traffic gets heavier and as sunset approaches, the walk along certain segments could get tricky with oncoming traffic - (no grass, no gravel to walk on - only the highway itself). I took the bus both ways and had no problems. Just use common sense and intelligence. In all, a very enjoyable stay and the restaurant was excellent. Depending on the purpose of your trip, you might want to rent a car. For me, it didn't matter because I was on holiday. Thank you to all at La Marmotte.
