An oasis on the Camino

Reviewed By RadicalCliff

This new architect designed hotel/retreat is located within the ancient walls of the Convent of San Francisco in Castrojeriz, nestled next to a cherry tree orchid. Almost in the centre of town. The word oasis comes to mind. We stayed a night for some luxurious relaxation after walking the Camino and staying in hotels, hostels and Alberques, it was sensational. The room was modern and large. The beds were very comfortable with amazing sheets. We relaxed in the wet and dry saunas and heated relaxation beds before having an excellent meal in the restaurant - it was easily the best we have had on the Camino. The family behind the establishment is immensely proud of what they have created and it shows in the top quality service and attention to detail. A highlight of our Camino!

A very nice hotel

Reviewed By JCom_Oslo

We had one room for three adults walking the Camino Frances: Good localisation. Big nice room with comfortable beds. There was no air conditioning, so it will probably be very warm in the sommer. Alright breakfast. According to a big sign in the town, the hotel offered dinner for 11€. However they charged us 14€!

Loved Everything About It

Reviewed By Jane E

This place is my favourite of the 17 hotels/pensions/hostels that I have stayed in so far while walking the Camino. It is right on the Camino as you come into Castrojeriz situated in a nice older building that was refurbished just a few years ago. You enter through the bar where the proprietor/barman checks you in. There is a dormatory and also private rooms and I had one of the latter. It was on the first floor and very big compared with rooms in many other hotels. There were twin beds, closet and some drawers. The bathroom was small but had a good sized shower cubicle. The only thing I didn't like about my stay was the very slippery surface in the shower where I ended up a bit like Bambi on ice. The wifi was adequate. The proprietors were such nice people. Helpful and fun. I had the pilgrim's meal in the evening and it was extensive and good. The bar seemed to be a gathering spot for locals which was nice to see with so many other places closed or deserted. The proprietors were up again by 7.30 am to make coffee for those of us needing a jolt before we headed out on to the Way. This place is good enough to be a destination in itself and I would consider returning for a non-Camino visit.

Walking the Camino Frances

Not the easiest place to find although just off the main street down some steps. However well worth the visit/stay. Good views from my bedroom that had a shower. Breakfast is taken over the street in a nice café/bar.
